Jeimu/Sal's Reality (and Jeimu's Consciousness), KSC, Florida, Ludicrous O'Clock in the Morning

Four weeks of nothing but torrential rain had hit Florida.

As such, Endeavour wasn't going anywhere. And Jeimu was stuck. She hadn't planned on her six month sojourn being preceded by a four-week quarantine.

The quarantine was long enough for separation anxiety to seep in.

She missed Newfoundland.

She missed him.

Laying on her back in the too-hard bed, Jeimu closed her eyes and concentrated. She'd promised herself that she wouldn't do this - that she wouldn't reach out to him while she was gone.

She couldn't help it though.

The landscape that her mind created was a woodland vista with a large clearing. The air was warm and the sky was blue. Birds twittered somewhere in the distance.

She was sitting under a tree, looking around at what she'd managed to do. It even impressed her.

A sigh escapes her lips as she looks down at the ground, speaking with a voice that was uncharacteristically quiet and meek sounding.

"I've missed you," she whispers to a presence she feels almost instantaneously.

He looks around, then stretches and scratches his bare chest before looking down and contemplating his pyjamas for a moment.

"Y'know what time it is?" His voice is soft and full of love despite the words.

"It's 3:35 in the morning," she says, finally looking up at him and smiling. "But you're still asleep."

She pats the grassy ground beside her and smiles widely. "Sit down?" she asks, the tentative tone of voice still there.

He folds himself down next to her with near-boneless seeming grace.

"Jes' got ta sleep, ye means," he says, putting an arm around her. "Ben bar crawlin' with Sam 'n Leeroy most the night."

"Well, yes, but either way, you're still asleep." She smiles, leaning into him, feeling utterly relaxed. "And Sam and Leeroy are doing okay? I hope you didn't give the poor girl alcohol poisoning..."

He puts the other arm around her and lays his face on her hair, leaning back against the tree. "They're doin' fine. 'N naw, she knows 'er limit."

"Good." Jeimu shifts herself slightly so that she can look into Jav's eyes. She stays like that for a few moments' silence before laughing. "I'm so stupid," she whispers. "Who'd have thought that after four weeks I'd already be ensnaring you with my mind?"

She leaned back against his chest, hearing his heartbeat, and plucked at the plaid pants he was wearing. "I pegged you as a stripe guy," she says with another smile.

"Ye already got me heart," he says soberly, kissing her hair. "Might's well get me brain too."

"You don't find that... well... creepy?" She could feel his lips touching the top of her head and she shivered slightly. "And look at what a silly locale I picked. Maple trees."

She turns around and kisses the tip of his nose before settling back down. "I just - well, I needed to -" She stops speaking and looks down at the ground, blushing.

He gently pulls her close again and rubs her back. "Noplace's silly wi' you in it, cyar'ika." His voice drops. "I love you."

She smiles. "I love you too," she whispers. "Really."

And I do a horrible job in the way of showing it, she mused, momentarily forgetting that in a place like this, thoughts cease to be private.

He chuckles and hugs her closer. "Hey, I got free drinks t'night fer the haircut."

"I told you it'd get you places," she said with a grin.

"So how are you feeling? About all this, I mean?"

"Well, ye could'a used a little less pink in the sunset, b'y."

"There's no pleasing you, is there?" she said, reaching up and squeezing his nose tightly. "I've been going insane, Jav. Really. There's only so much you can do in that silly box of a barracks, learning to sleep during the day..."

Her eyes mist over and she hides her face in her hands. "Like I was attempting to say before, I needed to see you just once before I go."

"What, we ain't gonna do this again?" He strokes her hair, dark eyes tender as his heart sang to her through their link.

"You're enjoying having your brain invaded by your semipsychotic wife?" She laughed quietly, simply enjoying the ebb and flow of his emotions - and of hers.

"Can you do me a favour?" she asked.

"Hmmm?" he says, his thoughts going fluffy.

Her face becomes serious; her mind becomes a torrent of emotions.

"Kiss me."

"Thought you'd never ask." He complies, gasping at the neural feedback.

It makes her cry because she's missed him that much. But she still manages to grin and ask coyly, "Did I step on your toe or something?"

"Can't you feel that?" he whispers, looking into her eyes as his heart swells with his own tears.

"What?" She honestly can't feel anything beyond the hammering of her own pulse. "What's going on?

"I kin feel ever'thin' you're feelin'."

"Really." If she lets herself calm down, she realizes, she can feel him too. Although his feelings aren't too dissimilar from his own. "That's, um, unexpected."

He leans forward and kisses her again, feeling his senses reel.
