BW 'verse. Various places near the Axalon. Face from the past.
An bent to adjust the lacing on the back of one of the soft, separately-toed, perforated leather boots she wore, her fingers quick and sure on the relatively unfamiliar task. "'Shoes', hmm?"
"Or boots, for ones that tall." Optimus stretched and then flopped down on the shrubby grass to squirm around and scratch his back.
The human chieftain watched him for a moment, her angular face quirked humourously. "What about 'foot shirts'? That's what Windracer was calling them as Rhinox worked on them. And speaking of Windracer... I can see where she gets it, now."
Optimus just groaned and grinned, impervious to her teasing about his actions. A sudden beep from his com, however, had him pausing and tapping himself on the chest. "Primal here."
//Confirmed Maximal shuttle incoming at heading (such and such and so and so),// reported Rhinox grimly. //You and An are the closest to it... slag!//
The Maximal leader bounded to his feet. "Rhinox? What happened??"
//The shuttle just encountered a chunk of space debris, and it's coming down fast. You should be able to see it....//
"There!" An pointed at the point of light in the sky, which rapidly grew into a flaming streak overhead. She was running even before they heard the boom of the small ship's entry into the atmosphere, her powerful legs carrying her over the patch of scrubby grassland they had been standing on the edge of.
"An, wait!" Optimus leaped forward, his four-legged gate soon overtaking his friend and pulling ahead of her. "We don't know who or what's in there!"
"Someone in need of help!" she threw back tersely, intent on her path.
"I've told you about the situation on Cybertron...." He broke off as something shot overhead.
"Terrorsaur!" An scowled and upped her speed, the tough soles of her new boots giving her feet the protection they needed to carry her forward heedless of broken sticks or cacti.
Optimus just growled and transformed, then kicked his jetpack into gear and roared in pursuit of the jet-powered pterodactyl, intent on knocking him out of the sky.
An didn't watch him go, she just kept an eye out for further enemies as she neared the long trail of burned and torn ground that showed where the shuttle had hit, her mind sending a prayer to the Creator of All as she saw how the broken ship lay and smelled the acrid stink of burned wires and metal.
She went to it, feeling her clothing draw up at the heat, then climbed up onto the slowly cooling metal skin and found the door. Hitting the release panel did nothing, so she leaned closer and shouted one of the emergency override access codes that she'd learned from Optimus and then grinned as she saw the door move. It only went a couple hands, but that was enough for her to brace her own hands into the opening and pull, her flames bursting into life around her as she turned her attention away from keeping them contained.
They actually seemed to help, and with much pushing, pulling and wrenching she was able to get the door fully opened, only to stop with dismay when she saw the size of the Maximal inside. Her hand shot down to the communicator on her belt, but then jerked upward as she heard heavy footsteps approaching. A loud whinny made her relax.
"Thundermoon! Help me, quickly! He's very large, and I'm afraid the shuttle is going to blow!"
Chainguns rattled nearby as the big black Maximal femmbot transformed and scrambled warily up beside her, and she jerked a quick glance upward to see Optimus and Terrorsaur still scrapping overhead. Praying again, she leaped down into the shuttle and then hurried over to tug and push and drag at the big furry Maximal till Thundermoon could reach him and pull him out. "Who else is here?"
"Quickstrike and Inferno." Thundermoon grunted as she heaved at the injured bot. "But Dinobot and Lockjaw are on their way. Rhinox thinks Megatron's still licking his wounds after the last time and won't come out."
"It takes awhile for him to regenerate after he's been set on fire." Despite the strain of pushing a very large being through an opening overhead An's face showed a flash of humour.
"Oh right. The fire. I wondered how you were here without being hurt...ack!" Thundermoon and their rescuee flew back and landed on the torn ground with a thud.
An scrambled out after them, then gave a banshee yell and ran to throw fire at a suddenly very surprised and discomfited Quickstrike, who protested that he only wanted to fight and there was no need to be setting his keister on fire! An just yelled again and sent another blast toward him, then darted away again as Rhinox turned one of his guns toward the fuzor and let rip.
"Get Inferno!" he yelled, and the human chieftain raced to meet her Predacon rival, who cackled like the madman that he was and shot at her with all he had.
Ignoring the flame, she slapped a metal spear into her spear thrower and sent it hurtling toward the giant ant, who saw it coming and gave an actual yelp of terror as he realized he'd set himself up for pain again. The spear hit him in the shoulder, disabling his arm, and rather than stay and argue the point with An one handed he chose to turn and fly away as quickly as his butt could spin.
Quickstrike soon followed, mourning the fact that he was all in pieces and couldn't fight anymore, and then Terrorsaur streaked away screeching and swaying dangerously with a broken wing.
An crouched and cast around for further enemy presence, but instead came face to face with Rhinox's beast mode. "Ack!"
"I'm not that ugly." The fat rhino smirked at her as he trotted past to go check on the bot she and Thundermoon had rescued, who was now laying a safe distance from the shuttle with the tall femmbot standing guard over him.
"Watch out!" Optimus landed beside her as a tiny localized rainstorm sent a torrent of water down on the shuttle.
"It doesn't look like Maacah got lightning this time." An tensed, but then relaxed as the small ship hissed and threw up a cloud of steam. "But she'll be tired after making rain at this distance from the village."
//Did we get the right place?// asked Windracer over the communicator. //About sixty paces from the little watering holes?//
"You got it," Optimus told the ten-year-old. "Tell Maacah thanks for us."
//I will, Optimus. Windracer out.//
"Primal out." He walked forward slowly to frown down at the large form that Rhinox was working on getting stable before they moved him to a CR chamber on the Axalon. Sight of the bot's face made him gasp slightly.
"What is it?" An looked up at him, her brows drawing together in a frown.
"I know this bot." He hunkered down for a closer look, feeling a chill go up his spinal relays. "His name is Codeak."
Rhinox looked up sharply. "Your mentor?"
"Yes."
"...Slag."
"Or boots, for ones that tall." Optimus stretched and then flopped down on the shrubby grass to squirm around and scratch his back.
