Kurt sighed as he gazed out the window. New home, new view. It wasn't that he disliked the castle, but a part of him missed his home world, even if the X Men and mutant haters were there all along.

But he wouldn't give this place up for anything, it meant so much to his Joy, and it was safe for her. All he wanted was a good home for her. His Joy.... He loved her so much when he saw her he could barely speak, but still, because his courage had failed him completely and the heartbreaks of Ororo and Mara had only just started to pass, he was afraid to do anything but take her on picnics, and sometimes made her a fancy dinner, if he could pursuade the kitchen staff to let him help.

He hated his gutlessness, but he didn't want to rush her, or himself. He wanted things with her to work out right.

Joy shook her head at the footstool as she tapped gently at Kurt's door. "Guten morgan, mein Leib," she called.

Kurt turned, blushed, fought it, then smiled, teleporting to her, taking her hands, and teleporting her back in before he pointed.

"Look at ze dragons play," he smiled, pointing up at them, then blushing again and looking at her. "How vas your morning, leibe?"

"Gut. Sehr gut." Her fathomless eyes looked up at the little creatures, ears twitching in a smile at their antics. "Ach they've bairns learnin' tae fly."

He smiled, then looked away before glancing back at her.

"Vould you like to do somezing today?" he asked.

Joy turned and wrapped those warm wings around him, laying her head against his shoulder. "Let's go see who's at t' Cafe."

"Nien... I mean.. vat if...." Kurt stopped and looked away, shoulders drooping.

"She moved avay." She gently turned his face back toward her, careful of her strength. "Und I'll go first. If I see 'er ve'll go back oot."

He blinked, then looked at her, reaching up and touching the hand on his cheek.

"Ja. I do not vant to hurt her," he said softly.

"Ye von't, Mein Leibe." She lay her head against his shoulder again with a sigh, offering comfort with her presence.

He turned his face against her, inhaling her scent and feeling utterly peaceful, kissing the top of her head.

"I love you," he said softly, closing his eyes.

"I love ye too." The ear that wasn't pressed against him twitched in a gentle smile as her wings tightened just a little.

He smiled and stroked her neck, then nodded. "Alright. Let's go zen. Perhaps ve vill find somebody gut to talk to, nein?"

"Ja." Both ears twitched as she stepped back and mantled herself in her wings, holding out her hand for his.

He took it and then bowed to her, giving her knuckles a kiss and smiling up at her, his tail wagging.

She laughed softly and concentrated on the Cafe, then led him through the door, only to stop and look around in surprised dismay as they instead came out into the foyer of a large house. "Ach."

"Zis is not the cafe," he frowns, looking around and putting an unnessessarily protective arm around her. Then he realized with a jolt where he was, and felt every inch of him run cold. "Oh Gott...."

"Vhat is it?" She looked up, ears going back as her wings half-furled.

"Zis is... oh no," Kurt ran his head through his hair, heart starting to beat. "Nien, liebe, ve must go, now."

"Alright." She turned one ear toward the door, then gasped and pulled Kurt behind it as it opened.

He moved in front of her, wincing and closing his eyes, but his heart was pounding so loudly he was dizzy, and he was taking too long trying to calm down to teleport them away.

Joy wrapped her wings around him, her hands resting on his back as she peered past him to see the person who'd come in.

"Ororo," Kurt breathed, staring as the weather goddess kissed the man who'd stolen her heart from him, the man he'd heard had gotten engaged to her almost right as he left for the World Outside Time with Joy.

"Ach," muttered Joy unhappily, tightening her wings around Kurt. "Tis another 'o me da."

Kurt tried to hear her, tried to teleport away, tried to move at all, but all he could do was stare weakly.

Suddenly Logan stopped and Kurt could see his ears perk, and he growled softly, testing the air.

"Logan?" Ororo said, confused. Logan looked around, then turned and let out a feral snarl.

"Elf's back," he said, marching over and slamming the door shut to reveal the pair. Kurt jumped, then imediatly moved in front of Joy as Ororo's face went white and Logan glared.

"Nein!" Joy refused to let go of him and glared right back, her ears sweeping backward. "Keep avay, old man!"
