Feen Verse: Meeting the father.

Creed blinked as he entered some cool, dark-smelling place, which caught him off guard.

He gently set his love down, then turned his head, smelling earth and metal, one arm around here. "Are we there, sweetheart? We make it?"

"Yes," rumbled a deep, familiar voice a trifle sadly. "Created. Though not in the truest sense. I merely tinkered in that which I should not have. But now I am responsible for the children that I caused to be, and must needs see to it that they have their chance at life. You see, Victor, I could not pass judgment on you even if you were the monster you think yourself, for your worst is nothing compared to mine own sins."

Fluß frowned and led Creed past the tanks, where a chair stood before a bank of screens and controls. A man sat there; a massive being with dark grey fur and long hair pulled back in a ponytail. A young Schattenfeen woman stood next to him, her red hair, wings, and eyes startling in the low light of the room.

He kissed the two babies he'd been holding and handed them to the woman. "Thank you, Hrafni. I'll see you tonight, daughter."

She nodded as she gave Creed a curious, friendly glance, then wrapped herself and her babies in her wings and left the room.

"Indeed, no." The Professor gestured to a wood and leather sling chair. "Would'st sit with my whilst thine bride goes to collect her possessions and speak with her mother and grandmother?"

Fluß leaned down and kissed him on the cheek, then left the room with a rustle of wings and a swish of skirt.

The Professor held up his hand, eyes unfocused as he listened, then turned to Creed and nodded.

"Indeed," said the Professor heavily. "Though there are now children and a grandchild of the firstborn."

"I was bored and wished to improve upon an earlier project." His shame was plain. "And perhaps in the process bring trouble down upon the heads of my foes."

"The love of a good woman," said the Professor sheepishly, though the smitten look was clear in his golden eyes.

The older man indicated the tanks and the tiny forms that moved in two of them. "Unborn fetuses. There are nearly two hundred of them awaiting their chance at life. As our Fluß noted, she was one such infant."

"We have all the time in the world." His eyes traced the movements of the two unborn, watching as the little one who had snuggled Creed seemed to search for something. "And I'm not sure that all of the children are e'en destined for this world."

"Oh, can I not?" Genuine sorrow showed in the big man's eyes. "I have done so, and that right handily. But these shan't travel alone, once I've convinced some of the elder ones that there is no shame in leaving me or this place."

"Am I?" He shook his head. "Henry McCoy died over a thousand years ago, Victor. Betrayed with his team and race and lost to the depravity of a megalomaniac with aspirations at deity." His voice dropped. "I am naught but the Professor, father to winged children and husband of Copelia."

And Creed probably had not trouble realizing that the megalomaniac had been the Professor himself.

The Professor's eyes were also on one of the tanks, his expression thoughtful, but he nodded and reached back to the console to pick up a slender band with a softly glowing jewel in the front. "Try this, young Victor. Methinks it will answer the prescription."

"Sees for you. You'll want to leave your shields down till it's recognized whatever it is that it needs to recognize in order to bypass shields so effectively."
