New Haven: Family

Jay-Jay smiled as she walked out of the resturaunt she waitressed in, folding her apron and looking around, stretching and making her way down the road, spotting her husband in his usual place in the foodcourt. Children hung off him as he dozed, AJ held close and Isha not currently in sight. A sign with a collection pail beneathe it hanging near him read "Kiddie care, $5 an hour".

She smiled fondly, going over and hunkering down next to him, giving him a kiss.

"Hey, babe. Good day?" she asked. He rumbled and looked up at her, eyes twinkling as he slowly rolled over, sending the children climbing on him scattering and laughing as he displayed AJ, who Jay-Jay kissed. "Where's Isha?"

"Mama!" A little cannonball hit her in the back of the legs, smelling of burger and orange children's perfume.

Jay-Jay caught herself, then smiled.

"Hey kiddo, have a good lunch?" she said, turning and scooping her up.

"Yes." She grinned and finished the last bite of a burger, then turned her head to watch the parents who hurried up to get their children and thank her papa. "'N I just ate a burger than Donnie gave me, but that's not my supper, right?"

"Not if you're still hungry, sweety. Hey, I brought you something," she said, offering a doggy bag and grinning. "It's your favorite."

The fuzzy toddler frowned and put her hand down to wipe it on the skirt of the cute little purple knit dress that she wore.

Jay-Jay caught it with some napkins and a grin.

"Not on your pretty new clothes, sweetheart," she said.

"Oops." She perked her ears, then sniffed and looked up at her mother. "Is there food for Papa and AJ too?"

"There's food for everybody," she said fondly, smiling at the young girl and kissing her forehead before presenting John with a huge bag of food.

"Don't worry, sweetie, there's more at home," she assured him, kissing him quickly and then passing a couple other bags of treats around. "Hey kiddos, who wants a snack?"

Most of the children had already been collected, but the couple who were left shook their heads and looked around expectantly for parents.

"Gramps has one for me," said a tiny dark haired girl who was floating a foot or so above John, her bright blue eyes taking in everything around her.

"Alright," the wolfwoman smiled, then blinked. "Your gramps still running around as hyper as a kid?"

"Wolvie's not hyper." The little one looked scandalized.

"Hmm," she sniffed, then blinked and smirked. "Oh, sorry honey. I got you confused."

She bent down and scooped up Isha, letting her continue to eat.

"Wanna go get a soda, honey?" she asked softly.

Isha leaned against her and watched as the little one with blue eyes suddenly flew toward where the Mayor of New Haven stood with his arms out. The other little child that was left looked around too, then followed his cousin.

"No." She shook her head thoughtfully. "I had some of that today. Wolvie smells just like Grandma, only a boy. And metal?" Ears perked as she looked at her mother.

"Yeah, that's a boy version of granma," she said gently. "And he's got a special skeleton that makes him smell that way."

"Huh." The toddler finished eating and held out her little paws to be wiped, then looked down at her father before turning back to Jay-Jay earnestly. "I saw something today that I really liked."

"Yeah baby?" Jay-Jay smiled, helping clean her hands. "What was that?"

"Well, Lacy called it a dolly, so I suppose it was a doll," said Isha, absently licking one. "We played with it and pretended that it was a little kid and we were adults."

"Was it hers?" Jay-Jay asked, wondering about it.

"Uh huh. Mama, can I have a doll?"

"Sure, baby. We'll go look at them tomorrow, alright? My shift gets off early," she said, smiling.

Isha gave a wistful sigh and turned her head to look down the shop corridor, which was still abustle with light activity. "Ohhkay."

Jay-Jay compared earning a grin from her heart daughter to the aching in her feet and then set her down. "John, watch my purse please," she said, taking out her wallet and slipping it in her back pocket.

"Hmm," he rumbled, looking up at her.

"I'm just going to get Isha a dolly. We'll be back in a minute," she said. John nodded and packed his daughter on the head, took a deeper kiss from his wife, then curled around his son. Jay-Jay smiled and held her hand out to Isha. "Ready to go, sweetheart?" she asked.

Those deep blue eyes looked up at her with slightly confused quizzicalness. "But you said tomorrow...?"

"But it occured to me that if we wait you won't have it to play with your friends," she said, stroking her hair and smiling. "So I changed my mind. Unless you don't want to?"

Isha put her fuzzy arms around her mother's neck. "I want to. Thank you, Mama!"

AJ looked up at her, then sneezed explosively and wiped his nose on John.
