Patchverse: New room

Jubilee walked to and fro, staring at her newly refurbished, very pink, very comfortable room.

Her face portrayed how much these objects meant to her, and she couldn't stop exploring her room, holding the Pikachu plushie while she did, happily touching things. She paused when she sensed something tiny nearby, and got down on her hands and knees.

She peeked under the bed, then giggled when she saw a small brown mouse exploring the cavern.

"Hi there," she said, reaching a hand out to it. The mouse stirred, then turned and peered at her, and she grinned.

Logan was grumbling as he stumped down the stairs and over to the couch, where he carefully slumped, mindful of the times he'd killed the stupid thing by falling on it too hard. Laying down, he groaned and stretched, then chuckled as he felt Tikvah's fingers stroke his brow. "Hey, darlin'."

A picture of Jubilee flashed into his mind and he sat up with interest, sniffing. "She back?"

"Come on, I won't hurt you," she said, reaching for the mouse again. It creeped a little closer, and she made a soft cooing noise, still clutching her Pikachu. The mouse backed up, and she slowly crawled under the bed and towards it, until only her knees down were poking out.

Logan pushed himself to his feet and walked over to tap on Jubilee's door, then peeked inside and chuckled. "What the heck?"

"Wh- oh, Wolvie!" Jubilee's muffled voice came out. She looked at the mouse and grinned. "I'll come back later."

With that she turned and crawled out, grinning when she saw the man in the doorway, hurrying over to hug him. "Wolvie! Lookit my new room!"

He held her close, sniffing her hair and blinking slightly as he went a little misty-eyed.

Then he looked toward the bed. "You talkin' t' that dang mouse?"

"I think I'm going to call him Arnold," she beamed, then took his hand. "Lookit shelves, Wolvie, they've got all sorts of mythical creatures painted on them!"

"See if ya can't git 'im t' quit chewin' holes in stuff." He looked up and blinked. "Huh."

"I'll try, I promise. What do you think?" she looked up at him, eyes shining for his approval.

"Looks good, darlin'." He smiled.

She cheered and hugged him again, grinning.

"Oh thank you, Wolvie, thank you!" she said softly, feeling overwhelmed with love.

He chuckled and looked down at her, his eyes alight with affection, but then started and growled as his watch beeped. "Dangit. I gotta take this, darlin'."

She blinked and looked up, then nodded and let go. "Ok, Wolvie. I understand."

"I'll be back as quick as I can. Y' won't be alone though." Unable to even mention his wife's name, this was the only way that he could let his junior partner know that she'd stay with her.

She hugged the Pikachu close and frowned, watching him go.

Going over to the bed she plopped down on it, then looked up at the ceiling.

"What's the good of being a Junior Partner if you never do anything?" she wondered, sighing.

A hand gently stroked her hair, followed by a comforting squeeze on her shoulder.

She smiled and hugged the doll, looking towards the energy readings gratefully.

"I'm not really upset," she said, feeling a little guilty.

A soft kiss touched her forehead, followed by an arm around her shoulders.

She smiled and leaned into the touch, then sighed.

"I'm a lot more useful than just as a kid," she sighed. "I mean... I look like and kid, and I'm supposed to act like a kid, but I'm not. I've got all this ability and everything, but nobody wants me as their sidekick. The Wolvie in my home world was feral and mean, and Superman didn't really want me around...."

She looked a little frustrated. "All I've been able to do is make games and stuff, and that doesn't help anyone."

"But you are helping a great deal," rumbled a deep voice from the door gently.

She started and turned, curling around her doll, then stared.

"Who're you?" she asked, scanning the stranger quickly.

"My name is Kurt McCoy," said the large, black-furred man gently as his golden cats eyes twinkled. "I live upstairs, and have but recently returned from a trip with mine young friend to find a fair damsel in residence with mine honorary grandfather."

"Ohh... you're the partner, from the pictures!" she jumps up and rushes over, nodding and offering her hand. "I'm Wolvie's new sidekick!"

"And the reason he smells so happy, methinks." He smiled and gently took the small hand. "Welcome, Jubilation."

"Yeah!" she beamed, shaking the hand eagerly. "But you can call me Jubee, or Jubilee. Jubilation makes me sound old."

"Which infirmity you'll never know, methinks" he said softly.
