Joy was still, seeming tiny and fragile with her large personality shut down and locked away.
But in her womb the child stirred, wondering at the strange sounds she could hear, especially the voice that had always upset her mother.
She pushed out curiously, but then went still as she started feeling the urge to push with her head.
And a contraction rippled its way across Joy's stomach at the same moment.
