rwVerse. Plains City and Ocean City. Cyclonus joins up.

Blackout watched as the automated turrets immolated the flying Terrorcons on the replay, her faceplate expressionless. Behind her and to either side Tidal Wave and Demolisher also watched the spectacle in grim or uneasy silence.

Then she stirred and rumbled a growl as the call she'd been waiting for came. "Megatron."

"What...?" came the soft, startled and dismayed exclamation from Demolisher.

"We serve Blackout," rumbled Tidal Wave, viewing the thought of meeting his former leader with stolid indifference.

The black femme acknowledged Optimus's call, and turned to stride from the room, her lieutenants flanking her as always. "This is going to be ugly."

* * *

It was ugly alright. Even she winced as the nearly demolished Hotshot was thrown at Optimus's feet, her optics burning as she stared at the mocking being who had done it. She recognized Megatron, even with this different voice and different shell. There was no way she could ever mistake her former master.

"Sheez Louise," muttered Demolisher, cringing as Ironhide cried out and then hurried to kneel by his fallen hero and beg him to rise.

//Shhh,// Blackout told him. //Don't break our cover. Remember the cloak.//

//Right.... Right... yes, sir.// He subsided, his optics on Cyclonus as he unconciously stood to attention.

Blackout also glanced at the white cammo mech where he stood beside Megatron, but then turned her attention to the back and forth between the two leaders, holding herself relaxed but ready to move at Primus's signal.

"Very well," said Megatron at length. "I'll let you go this time, but in return I expect you to surrender all your energon to me the next time we meet."

Ironhide protested angrily, Kicker kicked the ground. And then Prime called the retreat.

//We just going to let them go, boss?// asked Demolisher with surprise as the Autobots turned toward the gate.

//It's not time,// replied Blackout enigmatically even as she poked at her boss to try and get a time from him. Getting only gentle laughter at her impatience she settled for glaring an imaginary hole in the middle of Megatron's forehead.

Then she started as she distinctly felt something... someone come into being.

-Starscream...,- she thought as she lead her men through the gate back to Ocean City. -Not living and not dead... you have nothing to hold onto yet but the lies you've been told. We'll meet soon.-

next day

Blackout stood up on the city wall, watching as Demolisher guarded the city gate. Even from where she was standing the green mech's slight grin was clear. Demolisher was thinking about his bond mate.

The black femme chuckled to herself inwardly, then felt wistful as her thoughts went to Skywarp. Part of her wondered if the one native to this reality was like her own, or if she'd have a better chance at catching his interest.

Then she shook off the thought and scowled toward the sky, priming her chest cannon as she listened to Optimus and Kicker talk below and behind her. Jetfire launched, and she absently tracked his progress by sound. Kicker started arguing with Optimus and she quirked one brow ridge. -Does that kid know he's imprinted on Prime as a parental unit?-

Smirking at the thought, she watched as the Autobot leader upgraded himself with his drones, then turned her head toward the distant space bridge portal that had opened out over the water. -I hear you, Starscream. But you're not the one I'm after now.-

Rain started to fall, driving humans and Autobots alike inside, but Blackout stood stoic, watching things unfold and waiting, still waiting.

Then the second space bridge opened, hurling the screams of Terrorcons into the sodden air, and she tensed as she felt the signal. -Not yet, but soon.-

Optimus recoiled at an invisible attack as the city was struck by a hail of unfriendly fire; weapon turrets blazed, and Terrorcons swooped onto the city.

Blackout turned her attention to the gate, where Demolisher shouted and determinedly returned fire, then leaped to land lightly above and behind him. A slight silence fell, and Demolisher looked up.

"What?? Is that Megatron?"

The Decepticon leader transformed and landed in front of the gaping green mech, then laughed and spoke to him, only to scowl as Demolisher shook his head.

"I don't serve you anymore, Megatron."

"Oh?" Mocking amusement coloured the larger mech's voice. "So you've gone the coward's way and become an Autobot, have you?"

"No," said Demolisher, though he trembled. "I serve Blackout."

"And who, pray tell, is Blackout?" Megatron sounded bored, though his optics narrowed.

"That would be me." She dropped the cloak and stepped forward.

Megatron actually paused as he looked up at her, but then he started to laugh. "A female? You think you can usurp me??"

"No," she retorted calmly. "No one wants your cloud throne. I'm a Decepticon, not a freak."

"Who are you calling a freak?" His voice went low and deadly.

"Your audio receivers glitching?" she inquired, smirking as the rain ran down her faceplate.

"Demolisher!" he snapped. "You're telling me you'd rather spend the rest of your life tied to a female's apron strings?"

It was obvious which female the green mech was thinking of as he replied rather enthusiastically. "Yes, sir!"

Megatron blinked at that and gave him a long, bemused stare as Blackout chuckled.

Then he snarled and drew his sword, only to blink as she whipped out an identical one and blocked the blow. "Huh? That's my sword! How did you make a copy of it??"

She only smirked and lunged.

Once more the powerful green blades locked, and this time the causeway bucked and buckled beneath them, drawing a cry of amazement from where Kicker watched from above. Blackout paid the boy no mind as she silently went for the kill. Megatron countered, optics widening slightly with surprise at the ferocity of her attack, then launched himself upward and over the wall. The black femme followed, and again the city shook as the swords crossed.

Megatron laughed. "You'll never beat me, female. Optimus Prime himself cannot beat me!"

"Haven't you heard?" she countered quietly, once more attacking. "They've found something that can do the work of ten males."

He snarled at her and dodged, only to blink as he saw Hotshot and Ironhide arrive with their own copies of his sword, then barely counter Blackout's next attack as Cyclonus landed to stand beside him and quaver fearfully.

-Target identified.- Blackout reached out and snagged the chopper bot, elliciting a shriek of terror and a frenzied bout of giggling and firing. The black femme was half aware of Megatron letting off his energon flare, and of his retreat, but most of her attention was focused on her captive as she pulled him close and proceeded to subdue him.

"Blackout, are you alright?" asked Hotshot as the light died away. Then he blinked and gaped as he saw what she was doing. "Blackout! This isn't time for that!"

"Blackout always has time for that." Tidal Wave sounded amused.

The black femme broke the kiss and looked down at Cyclonus. "I suggest you switch alligiance."

He giggled, a goofy grin on his face. "Yes, ma'am!"
