The sun shone softly through sheer curtains, illuminating though not touching the two figures that lay on the bed, one under and one on top of the blankets. Black hair contrasted with white pillow linens, and soft breathing made slight movements.

Brenda snapped to wakefulness, then frowned without opening her eyes as she realized there were arms around her. She listened, then sniffed before moving experimentally.

"Ooh, secret lairs," he said, eyebrows going up as he smiled.

She led him down the stairs as the clock swung shut behind them, then over past the giant penny to the row of glass cases with their costumes and memorial plaques. The last bore a slender blood-red Batsuit and bore the inscription, 'Rachel, a good soldier'.

He stared at the objects and cases as they went, then paused and looked closely at th edescription, barely makin it out as a memorial. He blinked, thne looked at her. "What's all this for?"

"These were my predessesors." She gazed at that red suit, wondering what the woman who wore it had been like. "Some were my descendants. All were of my Clan."

"And what do you do?" he asked softly, looking at her face and putting and arm around her comfortingly.
