The sun shone softly through sheer curtains, illuminating though not touching the two figures that lay on the bed, one under and one on top of the blankets. Black hair contrasted with white pillow linens, and soft breathing made slight movements.

Brenda snapped to wakefulness, then frowned without opening her eyes as she realized there were arms around her. She listened, then sniffed before moving experimentally.

Her smile widened as Prudence brought over a flavorful, fluffy omelette made with mushrooms and onions and tomatoes. -Take it easy. Do this right. Get to know him. And think of the ramifacations of loving him.-

"Would you ask the blessing, Master Clark?" asked Prudence after she'd set a plate in front of each of the three at the table.

"Sure." He folded the paper and set it aside, then glanced at Brenda and Porthos.

Brenda had already bowed her head and was mentally adding her two cents worth.

Porthos blinked, then hurriedly bowed his head as well, thinking for a moment before thanking God for sending him here, to Brenda's home, where he could hopefully convince her to think about loving him. He also prayed for the safety of his brothers in arms and the others of his world, including the king. Then he added a quick apology for leaving the service with no notice, and blinked, looking up and suddenly realizing he was the last one to come out of giving thanks.

Clark smiled at him. "So, Porthos, what are your plans now that you're here?"

"Protect my lady, her home, and find and kill the blaggered who stole my sword," he said, nodding to him. "What is it you do?"

"Actually, I'm a doctor," he said easily as Brenda looked up with a frown.

"No killing," she murmured.

"May I eeat him soundly?" Porthos asked, giving her his best puppy eyes.

"Let's talk about this after lunch." She gave his hand a squeeze, then picked up her fork and started to eat.

"Alright," he sighed, then smiled and turned to his own food. "Everything serious after lunch. Everything fun before and after, aye?"

"Something like that." She looked up, then glanced at Prudence, who was cleaning up in the kitchen. "What do you think of the meal?"

"It's delicious," he grined, starting in on it. "Truly spectacularly wonderful."
