The sun shone softly through sheer curtains, illuminating though not touching the two figures that lay on the bed, one under and one on top of the blankets. Black hair contrasted with white pillow linens, and soft breathing made slight movements.

Brenda snapped to wakefulness, then frowned without opening her eyes as she realized there were arms around her. She listened, then sniffed before moving experimentally.

"Usually," he chuckled.

Prudence nodded. "We're a sort of unofficial extension of the Gotham City police force. The protectors of the city, if you will."

"Champions," offered Brenda, thinking he might understand that term a little better.

"Ah, I see. Still... breaking into the buildings?" he had to wonder.

"Is sometimes the only way to disrupt illigal activity and facilitate an arrest."

"Ah. That makes sense," he nodded. "What was happening at the factory? Do you know who took my sword?"

"It wasn't a factory," said Clark. "A warehouse, where illigal ordenance is stored after it's shipped into the US and before it's distributed. But we don't know who took your sword. I'm sorry. You can have one of mine, if you want."

"I see," he said, blowing off the information about the factory, his only interest was in his missing artifact.

"If I ever catch him..." he growled to himself, shaking his head before he sighed. "But if I am to protect you I should find a proper replacement, however temporary."

He slipped and arm around Brenda and grinned the best he could. "I'm not going to let some bloody wanna be crook keep me from keeping you safe."

She shook her head slightly. "I'm not helpless, Porthos. If something hadn't set off the alarms I would have made it in and out of that warehouse without a mark."

"I know, I know," he said quickly, smiling gently and slightly amusedly. "But still. Behind every daring, prescious damsel, she has a thug to help her when times are rough."
