The sun shone softly through sheer curtains, illuminating though not touching the two figures that lay on the bed, one under and one on top of the blankets. Black hair contrasted with white pillow linens, and soft breathing made slight movements.

Brenda snapped to wakefulness, then frowned without opening her eyes as she realized there were arms around her. She listened, then sniffed before moving experimentally.

"How about the Dashing Rescuer of The Magnificent Bat Woman?" he asked.

"No," she said desisively, eyebrow quirked in teenage mockery.
