The Phoenix Bluff Bed and Breakfast, Port aux Basques (aka Sal's Place)

Leeroy was sleeping soundly for what might be the first time since arriving on the island.

It was entirely possible that the prospect of six weeks' worth of no work as Sal re-assumed captain's role upon the Lukey (which meant that the trawler was undergoing a fresh round of repairs and a complete refitting, most of which would be done by Sal herself) was relieving much of the stress that he had been feeling lately.

Or maybe it was due to what happened the afternoon immediately following Jeimu's launch - when what he had come to know (although perhaps not as intimately as some of his friend) as the very presence of God had touched his brothers, instilling in them a sense of forgiveness.

All things told, he had lately felt a lot less responsible for everyone's well being. Or, rather, almost everyone.

He still wasn't entirely sure where things stood between he and Sam - she had her line of work and he was constantly worried about her - but, nonetheless, the two of them were spending an awful lot of their free time together.

She'd said she was leaving Port aux Basques early in the morning; and so it was his intent to wake up to see her off.

But for now, he slept.

Jav made a feint and gasped as Sam wapped him in the gut, then chortled as Vic grabbed Leeroy and dragged Jav toward the door, only to stop and quirk an eyebrow questioningly at Kurt, who was frowning at him.

"... What?" Sal looked at everyone, and then at Vic who was dragging the two brothers out the door.

"I missed it, didn't I?"

She looked at Kurt, who was holding a rolled peice of paper in one hand, then at Sal. "Missed what? Hey, we don't have time for that!"

Sam concentrated hard and gently banged two heads together. -We don't have time for that! Don't make me come out there!-

It wasn't an idle threat, either. They might be bigger and better fighters, but she'd made them all say ouch in the time she'd been here.

Sal watched the three men return and laughed.

"Well done," she said to Sam.

The tall brunette only gave an absent grin, her eyes on Kurt as he set the paper down and sread it open.

"It's a contract," he explained. "Und it doesn't matter vhat reality you're from. It's still a binding contract. If you can show this you'll have all the proof you need of legal matrimony."

"My stuff doesn't have a very good track record," she remarked dryly.

"It's made to survive," he assured her, tail waving slightly.

Sal raised a finger as though waiting for someone to call on her, but went ahead and spoke anyway.

"Not to throw water on th' party or nothin'," she said, "but we're going to make sure the entire family on both sides is assembled before doin' this, right?"
