Hunter-'verse. A park in Helena, Montana. Down time

Mary ducked as the ball whizzed past her ear, then went after it and returned the favor by trying to take her Uncle Sam's head off with it. It was returned with similar velocity, though kinder aim, whereupon she fired it in her other uncle's direction, hoping to catch him off guard since they'd been ignoring him for a few minutes.

"'Kay." She nestles a little closer, then looks at Uncle Sam and crosses her eyes at him before brightening at sight of their drinks being set on the table.

Mary grins at the laugh. In her opinion her uncle/dad doesn't do it enough.

Then she looks at Sam and kicks him under the table just as he goes to take a drink.

She tries to look up innocently, but a wave of ugh makes her change her mind. "Sorry, Uncle Sam." She lifts her orange juice and sips at it, then goes after the ice.

And that innocent act doesn't work on him. Sam used to try and pull that on him when they were younger. "Now we wait." He says with wry amusement. He hated waiting.
