Transformers Animated 'verse. Detroit Autobot base. Home for the holiday.
Koko rose slowly to wakefulness, her mind absently reaching out to take in the morning sounds of the base so as to assure herself that her world had not gone haywire in the night as she rested. She could hear Christmas music echoing down the hall from the room that her family, Optimus', and Ratchet's used for a living room, and the low murmur of happy and excited voices.
Oh yes, she thought absently. It's Christmas morning. Paradox is out there showing everyone what he did yesterday with packing peanuts and energon syrup, and finding out how much of that Swindle co. order that we made is for him.
She smiled slightly, her spark throbbing gently with old pain as she imagined what the scene in the living room would be like had Paradox's father been with them. -Oh, Prowl. You've missed so much.-
Someone sighed, causing her optic shutters to fly up. And then an arm went around her and pulled her close to a quietly thrumming chest.
"What?" She went rigid with shock as she analyzed the sounds of the intruder, and then sucked in air as she peeked down and saw the gold of the arm that held her. "No..."
"Yes," murmured a voice that she never thought to hear again outside dreams till she'd passed into the Well of All Sparks. "I'm here."

"Elita, stop taking pictures of my skidplate," said Optimus absently as the camera flashed again, but he didn't look up from the toy that he was helping Paradox assemble for Megatron.
"What makes you think I'm taking pictures of you?" His mate laughed, and then quietly thanked Arcee as the older femme passed the currently circulating box of choccy candies.
"Maybe because that's all you ever take pictures of when you get the camera?" said Ratchet, his gruff old voice laced with amusement. "Ack! Blackout, that's my finger, not a cookie. Here, bite this instead. Now isn't that better?"
"Cookies taste better." Sari laughed as she brought the tool kit over to Optimus, her close-cut hair crowned with a reindeer hat. "But they don't make funny sounds when she bites them."
"Are you callin' me a squeaky toy?" growled Ratchet. "Again."
"She doesn't need to, old timer. You do it just fine yourself."
"I'll 'Old timer' you, Bumblebee. Just you wait till you wind up in the medi-lab again."
"I'm quaking in my break shoes!" The black and yellow bot laughed. "Do you want a softboil sammich?"
Sari laughed as Ratchet grumbled about stupid questions and Myrrh gently chided him, then glanced toward the door as someone walked in. And froze with her blue eyes wide with shock and disbelief.
"What in blazes?" said Ratchet at the same time.
"Oh no..." Optimus turned slowly, feeling his spark up in his throat as he wondered what had changed this time and why it had to happen today, when things were supposed to be happy.
Then he saw the bot standing beside Koko and fell back onto his rear with a crash that startled a giggle out of Blackout and made Sari instinctively take the quail chick position.
"Paradox, Paradox!" said Megatron excitedly. "Look! Your daddy's back. He's here!"
"P... Prowl?" stuttered Optimus, not trusting his viz scanners. "You're... But you didn't come back when I wished... You..."
The golden ninja grunted as he went down under a joyous rush of welcome, then put his arms around Bumblebee and hugged his young friend tightly as Koko put her hand on the little black speedster's back.
"I know," he said quietly, as Paradox tiptoed over and then joined the hug pile with a bound. "I still had a few more things that I needed to do."
"So you're staying now?" demanded Ratchet, his voice even rougher than usual.
"Yes." Prowl looked around as nearly everyone in the room let out air they'd been holding in, his expression serious but joyful beneath the helmet that had once belonged to his mentor. "Yes. I'm here to stay now. Merry Christmas."
