Backwater Nexus. Mall. Let's Rock and Ride!

Lucy approaches the mall with just a little trepidation, smoothing out her dress (bright green with yellow flowers on the skirt -- and it's just over knee length, so a certain little pitcher needn't worry if she's around tonight) and making sure her hair is pulled back neatly in its ponytail. Silver's mention of the Rock N Ride nights at the mall stuck with her even after her return to her own world. So, after a rather annoying day trying to make sure her passport was up-to-date, she's decided it's time to seek out some fun and see what else this Nexus has to offer. "Just hope they accept regular old American dollars," she mumbles, patting her purse by her side as she reaches the front entrance. (Nothing in her vast array of literature suggested they wouldn't, but discretion, valor, etc.)

"Alright!" He rubs his hands together and grins, then pokes at the machine, which beeps and whirs in a friendly manner as it lights up. "Alright, baby, stick that twenty in right there."

Lucy examines the machine with interest, before grabbing her wallet and pulling out a twenty. She inserts it into the appropriate slot, hoping it'll take on the first go. Vending machines are notoriously picky, after all.

This one seems to have never heard about its normal world brethren, because it happily slurps the bill up, and then beeps some more as Jazz presses a last button.

The living doll then takes the little gumball machine type bubble that the vending machine produces, and holds it up so that Lucy can see the brightly glowing little twinkle of energy floating inside. "We'll do it the quick way, instead'a wastin' time askin' you a lotta questions."

Ah, good, no messing around. Lucy watches as Jazz grabs the plastic bubble and holds it up. "Okay," she says slowly, squinting at the curious little spark. Now what could that be?

Jazz gives it a little shake, then speaks again. "I wish Lucy here had a LOLcat book that had two hundred 'o the cats that'll make her laugh the most."

The twinkle vanishes, and Jazz's hands are now full of a cloud of twinkles.

This seem familiar, Lucy?

Aha! "Well, wasn't expecting that," Lucy says with a little laugh as the twinkles multiply. "A vending machine for wishes?" You really can find anything here in this place, huh?

"No," says Uzulee grinning. "It's a book machine. The usual method for getting your book is to answer a list of questions, and that one's cheaper. But this one's quicker."

"Yeah," says Jazz. "I had enough credit fer a wish, but not enough fer a wish 'n a book. Speakin' a which." He triumphantly holds out a fat, interesting looking, softback book with exposed long stitches on the spine and a cover of heavy yellow paper of the sort that envelopes are made from.

"Ooooh, okay then," Lucy says, nodding. "Yeah, filling out a questionnaire might have taken a little more time than any of us wanted." She can be slow with surveys. Has a tendency to overthink the answers.

She takes the book with a free hand, looking it over from all angles. "Interesting design choice. . ." She manages to open it to a random page and takes a look, giggling at what's within. "But I've got no complaints about the content!"

"You and Jazz didn't have any specific kind of binding in mind." Uzulee laughs and fingers the cover of the book, seeing that it's made from a few layers of the paper for strength. "That's probably what Archiva had on hand when she heard the wish."

"Oops." Jazz grins adorably.

"Fair enough, fair enough," Lucy says with a nod. "Archiva, huh? She in charge of this vending machine?" She thinks its a fitting name for someone who just helped give her a big book of LOLcats.

"She's the Nexus Librarian." Uzulee pokes thoughtfully at the machine, and then sticks a few coins in to receive a little plastic chip in return.

"What's that?" asks Jazz curiously.

"So in charge of all the books then," Lucy nods. "Sounds about right. Have to say 'thank you' should I ever run into her."

"I second that question," she says, peering at the chip.
