Save her. Her being a girl named Lacey. It's what they'd told them about. Mornbein didn't know it but for him they'd gotten rather loud. The voices normally did. When he went through the cafe door he'd landed right in the cargo hold and noted the four guns pointed at some girl he didn't know. His own gun was suddenly raised and pointed right back at them.

"River?"

His eyes narrowed slightly at his big brother. "Put 'em down."

"No ruttin' way I'm takin' orders from..." Jayne starts but backs up once that gun is pointed at him. He knows how crazy moonbrain there is.

"Now." River says those eyes just watching them. Once the guns are down and the crew backs up he cants his head and looks at the girl. No, she didn't go squish. Her brainpan was still intact. "Are you okay?"

Lacey flinches and hides harder, even though she doesn't understand the word, but then she moves her head slightly as the smell of food makes her senses reel. "Ugh...."

"Pay no attention to that gorram hundan." Zoe states watching the two of them more closely now.

"Should eat." He states watching Yahto go from sitting comfortably on him and move to go sit on Lacey's nose.

She starts and tries to see the tribble, then closes her eyes and puts up a hand to take him off, feeling surprised by his soft warmth and the little coo and quiver he does. Absently nodding compliance to River, she opens her hand and looks at Yahto, only to start again as the tiny animal squeaks peircingly as though calling for someone.

River watches before petting Yahto as Lacey holds the little guy. He looks up as Zoe brings some soup and other assorted foods over to them.

Lacey sets Yahto down despite his vehement protests, in her confusion forgetting that pets don't usually go on tables. Stomach rumbling and head spinning, she looks from the food to Zoe, not sure of what she's supposed to do.

"Eat." River states simply watching her for a moment.

She glances at him, then nods and bows her head for a moment before she blushes and realizes that they might now do that here. Praying to herself, she picks up the spoon and starts to eat the soup, her hand shaking a little.

Yahto, meanwhile, wants to crawl into River's plate.

River makes a face at Yahto and moves him before going about eating his own soup.

"It's good," Lacey tells Simon shyly, the strain she's under showing in her face as she looks up at him.

Simon gives her a warm smile. "Thank you."

"Simon learned to cook. Capt'n doesn't like to."

She smiles slightly, nervously, and looks down to her bowl.

"I don't like to either," she admits, wondering if there was some sort of alternating kitchen duty.

"That's okay. Simon cooks. Kaylee does too."
