Feen Verse: Meeting the father.

Creed blinked as he entered some cool, dark-smelling place, which caught him off guard.

He gently set his love down, then turned his head, smelling earth and metal, one arm around here. "Are we there, sweetheart? We make it?"

The flexible material of the tank rippled again as the baby brushed against it on his way to the hand, and then the little swimmer's frenetic movements stilled to contented sleep.

"I see that I will have to do something about the length of his gestation," rumbled the Professor softly. "He'll not gladly submit to being parted from you now."

"That had naught to do with it." The Professor walked away and returned shortly with a rack of small bubbles. "Which one, think you?"

"Yes... that one is rather closely related to his prospective sire." The Professor nodded and gently removed the bubble from the rack, then handed it to Creed. "Warm him in your hand as I ready the tools for getting your son ready."

The ancient Beast took the rack back to its place, then returned with a device the size and shape of a beer keg, which he set on a table and rolled close to the tank that Creed stood next to. "I must needs sedate him for the transfer, lest it prove too traumatic."

He looked toward the third, empty tank and nodded. "When you feel movement in the bubble wouldst insert it into the port on yon artificial womb?"

"You're doing fine," came the distracted reply as the Professor carefully opened the tank and transfered Creed's new son to the smaller one.

And the tiniest of taps and wriggles suddenly started in the big catman's hand.

Behind him the bubble split, the shell growing quickly and becoming the child's placenta, which fastened to a special place in the tank as the Professor mentally oversaw the process.

"This is a portable womb; the means by which he may best have his age accelerated."
