Valley of the Queens

Ven looked around, a wary expression on his face. "You weren't kidding," he said to the woman standing beside he and Jav. "This sure isn't like any place I've ever been to before."

He toed some dirt, inspecting its consistency, and then turned to the woman. "So if they were to live here -" he motioned to the walls of what appeared to be a cave, " - what exactly would they do?"

It was a valid question. Without a fight to fight, he feared that the rank-and-file of the GAR would be sorely out of luck.

Jav succumbed to the urge to spit over the railing, then looked around thoughtfully, liking the feel of the place. "Does that door we came in go anywhere else? That one on the wall back in there?" he asked Aoife.

She nodded and settled to sit cross-legged on the floor. "The guy that I won the portal generator from said that it can go anywhere, even to other realities if you know how. But he didn't know enough about computers to do anything with it."

Aoife groaned. "There are ships, too. But please don't make me do anything else until I've had time to sleep this off. Please." There was genuine, rather hopeless, pleading in her voice. It made Jav turn and stare again.

"No." She grimaced and lay down, closing her eyes. "It's too quiet. I just checked it out once to make sure it covered the debt."

Jav's eyebrows were getting to know his hairline as he leaned back against the railing and watched what was going on. When he saw his brother's glance he shrugged. He had no idea what was going on here.

"What?" Aoife frowned without opening her eyes.
