Gregory, after hitting his apartment and getting changed, comes into the office, briefcase in one hand, coffee for everyone in the other. "Hey."

Dawn was delighted to see him, and actually stopped typing to come out from behind her desk and give him a hug, her differently coloured cat's eyes shining through her glasses. "Gregory! There you are. I was starting to think you'd moved on to greener pastures."

He grins, balacing the coffee as he hugs her back. "Never, Dawn. Who else could keep Matt from over-working? He hands her some coffee. "Here ya go. Got some for everyone."

"Now why would you want to go and give Snot coffee?" she asked, making mention of the young greenish office boy who seemed to have the energy of three boys his age. Her eyes twinkled as she said it, then closed with delight as she smelled the steam coming from her cup. "Ohhhhh. Nice."

He grins. "Thought you might like that. It's some columbian blend." He goes over to his desk, dumping the rest of his stuff. "What cases need immediate attention? I can start on those."

"Red tags." Matt was frowning at his computer screen and chewing on his stylus.

"Do you remember how to start the computer up?" asked Dawn, remembering his surprise when he'd first seen the little rectangular box that was a PC in this reality and seen the holographic screen and keyboard. "Make the keyboard and screen pop out?"

He nods. "Yea." He puts a cup of coffee down on Matt's desk. "Enjoy." He settles down at his own desk, grabbing a couple of red tagged files and starts the computer, getting to work. "I'm halk tempted to swipe one of these for my place."

"It's all on chips," said Matt absently. "I didn't have time to print it all out on hardcopy."

"No problem." He puts in the first chip, scanning. "This is a simple file4 and be done." He gets to work, sipping on his coffee, in the zone.

"Yeah? Which one is it? Norton verses Touma? Or the Ratcheson case?"

"Ummmm...Norton V Touma. If you pick through all the bullshit, all that needs to be filed is a 10-14."

"Yeah, well, that's probably them on the phone now. I actually heard Dawn curse this morning." Matt chewed the stylus, then pulled his screen close and started writing.

"I got it." He answers the phone, and sure enough, it is them. He gives a quick answer, saying it will be taken care of today and hangs up. "That is the bitchyest woman I've ever spoken to...."

"Probably thought she was talking to a mutant." Matt paused in his writing to read what he'd done, then glanced at Dawn as she sniffed disapprovingly. "What? If she weren't genuinely in trouble I'd have told her to go fly a kite. But I'm not letting those kids wind up in trouble just because their mother's nearly as much a creep as their father."

He shrugs. "I just have to...do fax machines still exist?"

"Sealed direct to hardcopy sending file." The stylus got more toothmarks.

He blinks. "Ah...huh?"

Dawn stopped her typing and walked over to show him how to transform the needed file and send it.

"Thanks Dawn..." He blushes, feeling like an idiot.

She gave him a motherly kiss on the cheek and a reassuring pat on the back. "Don't feel bad, dear. It took Matt awhile to remember how to use those too."

"Did not," came the distant protest from the other desk.

Gregory laughs and gets back to work. His cell phone rings and he grabs it, stupidly not looking at the caller ID. "Hello....Bethany hi....yea about that uh....I'm sorry....I can't I'm work....uh-huh....uh-huh....I know, I know but....Beth....Ok ok, I'll make it up to you.....I don't know.....Jacq? She's um......Well why were you going through my apartment?.....Tybalt's at Mitch's, I told you that....." He runs his fingers through his hair. "Look, I.....ok fine.....I'm sor...." He stares at the phone and shrugs, putting it back in his bag.

Dawn cocked her head and frowned with concern as Matt said without looking up. "Who's Bethany, and why's she so TO'd?"

He sighs. "My ex....sorta. A friend of mine set us up on a blind date and....it didn't go well."

"And how did she get in your apartment?" Matt looked his direction with a frown.

He grits his teeth. "Key under the mat...she must have found it." He bangs his fist on his desk angrily. "I told her I wasn't interested dammit..."

"You put the key under the mat...." Matt dropped his stylus onto the table and facepalmed.

"It was so my neighbor could feed my cat and water my plants..."

Matt sighed. "Want me to go check on things?"

He sighs. "I can do it..." He looks at the pile of work he has to do.

Matt looked at his and winced. "Well, at least she can't do anything to your cat, and she can't stalk you here."

"Amen to that...I'm surprised my phone even works here." He sighs. "Well, whatever. Most of my stuff is on the Pearl now anyway..."

"This reality has some weird nexus-y traits." The stylus resumed its place in Matt's mouth as his eyes strayed back to his screen.

Dawn shook her head at him uncomprehendingly, then patted Gregory on the shoulder and returned to her own desk and her partially written novel.
