Fluß poked the slab of beef that lay in a bowl on the counter and found it satisfactorily thawed.

She put her ears back, then flicked them toward the doors, listening again for Victor's return. "(He should be back by now,)" she said to Peter, who was quietly smacking on his fist in his sling. "(He said that this was going to be an easy mission.)"

Ears back again, she went to the back door and listened again, one hand absently smoothing the long, sparkly, blue and green tie-dye skirt that she wore before it went up to tuck her white streak behind her left ear.

"You have Peter." She scooped it up one-handed, ears twitching uncertainly as she tossed her braid back over her shoulder. "But vhy did he run?"

"Dunno," he smirked. "Maybe 'cause he's onna the kids trying to break in the other night."

"Ach." Her ears went back in a frown and she almost put the box down to go after the boy and ask him why he'd done such a thing and frightened her baby.

"Just wanted t' set up somethin' for mischief," he said, catching her wrist and kissing him. "Don' worry. Chuck n' I dealt with 'em. Besides, they never made it past exterior defence."
