Valley of the Queens, Clone city: Looking for Ang

Spike winced as he looked around. The good news was spotting a young, blonde girl in this crowd would be easy. The bad news was the fact that all the men here looked exactly the same was really starting to freak the former vampire out.

He sighed as he walked forward, looking around and asking random people if they'd seen the blnde girl who liked to draw anywhere around here.

He sighed. This might take some time.

She hugged his arm absently. "Do you like fish? Or s'nakt?"

Present turned right way up in Spike's grasp and watched the river for a moment, then hopped down to drink some of it.

He moved both arms around her.

"I'm not sure," he said. "I don't think I've tried s'nakt. I know fish is good."

She gave him another sunny smile, those wide eyes dancing. Then she wriggled free and sat down to pull off her shoes and socks and roll up her pant legs before rising again and wading into the river.

Present blinked and lifted her head to watch, then swam out after her.

"No, no, Present, go back." Ang stopped and waved a hand at her. "Go to Spike. Go back. I'm not going very far."

"C'mere, kitty," he smiled, catching her. "Kittens don't swim."

Ang watched as the kitten mewed unhappily and wriggled slightly. "Shhhh. Stay there."

Present recognized one of her special words and stopped struggling, laying still instead.

"Good girl." Ang smiled and waded out further, then stooped and reached into the water to poke around the plant-grown rocks on the river bottom.

"Hey, sweetie, don't worry," he murmured, kissing her head and scratching behind her ears. "She'll be right back. You don't want to be washed away, do you?"

Present purred hugely, though she kept her eyes on Ang as the small woman brought up a handful of some sort of green plant and then carefully washed it clean of snails and bugs.

"This is s'nakt." She waded out of the water and held it up.

It looked like shiny, dark green lettuce with thick leaves.

"Looks... uh... good," he said slowly.

Her smile went sympathetic and she broke off a piece and munched on it happily, her eyes never leaving his face.

He slowly reached and broke off his own piece, trying it, then smiling.

"It's... not that bad," he said, looking into her and chuckling.

It was crispy, a little chewy, and delicately spicy.

Ang's smile widened slightly and she offered him most of the head, keeping only a leaf for herself. It wasn't that she didn't want more; she just wanted a hand free so that she could hug his arm again. Watching his face light up when she did that made her feel good.

He took it as his grin blossomed and he kissed her shyly on the cheek.

"Thank you," he smiled.

She hugged his arm, then tugged gently. "Let's sit down. I don't think I got the grass very wet."

Present stretched her nose toward the s'nakt, hoping to be given a bite. She didn't realize that all Spike's hands were full.

Spike smiled and sat by her, then used a finger to grab and rip a peice off, offering it to the kitten.
