World Outside Time: 4 days later

Jubee lay on the grassy courtyard, bathing in the sunlight and feeling happy and content for the first time in a long while.

She was stretched out, laying in the yellow dress with her notebook, torn a little and battered, but fine other than a bloodstain on the cover, laying open in front of her. She'd purposefully ignored the pages before these ones, concentrating on the better times as she described the castle and the grounds, Sir James, Anmut, and everything that had happened so far.

On the ground next to her Steve was curled up, asleep as usual, and behind her Sir James and Anmut sat, also enjoying the day.

"Oh no... what's wrong?" Jubee's eyes got big and she took her hand.

"I don't know." She tried to hide under her wings.

Sir James growled again, but then suddenly looked flummoxed.

"Stoppit," Jubee said, also seeing a pattern and wapping his arm before she carefully hugged Anmut. "Don't be scared. He growls because he cares but he can be cranky. My Wolvie's like that to, and so is every other Wolvie in every other universe. It just means he loves you."

Sir James stifled his growl, then got up and stomped inside.

Anmut looked after him with wide eyes, then lowered her head again and began to weep, her hot tears leaving scalded patches in the grass.

"Oh @#%!," jubee could help herself as she hugged her friend. "Don't cry, please, Anmut, that was my fault. I shouldn't have hit him. Please, please don't be sad, please."

Nice going, Jubilation. Jeez, can't go anywhere without screwing everything up, can you? she thought angrily at herself before she stopped and bit her lip, looking back at the arrows.

Yeah. She managed to screw up fast.

"No. It's mine. He heard me talking vhen I vas sick. Und now he knows...." Anmut pressed her face into the grass. "He knows I vant to be his frau."

Jubee paused, the hugged her.

"He's just surprised, then," she said. "He thought you didn't like him at all."
