Josh's Reality: Lab: Better Lead than Dead

Though temporarily out of the Phantom Zone and given just a wee bit of a reprieve, Mon-El was still dying, still suffering from lead poisoning in his veins.  Even if he could be cured of what was killing him now, the odds of encountering lead again were tremendous.  It would take a miracle to truly save his life.

His vision was hazy, pain making it hard to focus, but he could make out a high tech laboratory, one that would have been the envy of many a scientist.

He resumed working on his cuff. "Do you have any theories as to the appeal of small animals that look like balls of fur and don't do anything but squeak and eat?"

And Lar continues to provide assistance. "Beats me."

"Well I've got to find one for Jenny." He sighed, hands blurring as he worked. "And find someone who'd like the unicorn."

Lar, of course, has no problem following what Josh is doing. "I realize I'm probably no expert on Earth culture, but don't you have pet stores?"

He blinked and ran over everything he might have heard on the subject. "Maybe... but I've never seen one. I'll have to research it."

"They were pretty common in the 20th century... Though I don't have any idea when I am now."

"2017, but this is an atypical Earth," said Josh thoughtfully as he soldered the last connections on his cuff.

"In what way?"

[random_xtras]

"Well, the Marriage Program, for one thing." He blinked slightly as little blue sparks came from the tip of his tool, then did it again on purpose before continuing work.

And Lar continued to help. "Marriage Program?"

"Yeah, here all marriages are arranged. Most people are matched by the Marriage Bureau by ten years old. The contracts are tentatively written up then and they start to get to know one another. Contracts are usually finalized by the time the participants are sixteen, and that contract lasts five years, after which time the participants are free to renew it either temporarily or permanently, or to seek another partner of their choice."

"Interesting," he replied. There wasn't any shock or surprise in his voice, simple interest. He's studied enough about other worlds that he rarely, if ever will pass judgment on something like that.

Besides, Josh made it sound like it seemed to work.
