Josh's Reality: Lab: Better Lead than Dead

Though temporarily out of the Phantom Zone and given just a wee bit of a reprieve, Mon-El was still dying, still suffering from lead poisoning in his veins.  Even if he could be cured of what was killing him now, the odds of encountering lead again were tremendous.  It would take a miracle to truly save his life.

His vision was hazy, pain making it hard to focus, but he could make out a high tech laboratory, one that would have been the envy of many a scientist.

"Yes, sir," he replied. "My name is Lar. Lar Gand."

"Vell, Lar." He held out a plate that held a quarter of a pan of lasagna, his ears twitching with amusement. "Do you think this vill be enough?"

"That looks fine, thank-you."

"Ach," said Himmelriß with concern. "Are you sure?"

"Think of how I eat after a job," said Josh from where he now sat at the table beside Jenny.

"He's not as big as you...." His aunt turned to look at him.

"He's still a growing guy, though. And he hasn't seen food in awhile."

"It's fine. Really," Lar said, holding his hands up.

"This is good for people vith normal style food needs." Sonnejäger kissed his wife and handed the plate to Lar, then brought the other plates to the table. As Himmelriß had mentioned, two of the plates held large cooked snails with a reddish sauce on them.

"Thank-you," Lar said, as he sat down at the table.

"I've already asked the Singer's blessing." Sonnejäger sat on the stool at the end of the table and set his wings on the floor to either side of him. "So go ahead und eat."

Josh didn't need to be invited twice. He ate with perfect manners despite his speed.

Lar, by contrast, ate more slowly. Savoring each bite and each flavor and bit of texture. It didn't hurt that it really was quite good.

"So." Sonnejäger's voice was a deep, gentle rumble. "You're a scientist, Lar?"

"Yes, sir. Specializing in space exploration and astronomy, but I've dabbled in chemistry as well."
