DK-Verse: Batcave?: On the Road Again (and Again)

Great.  One moment she was in the Nexus--having previously been in a Gotham more than three hundred years in her future--the next she's in the Batcave.  Only... it's definitely not her Batcave.  Some of the souvenirs were off, for one thing.  And, well, she just had a sense about this kind of thing.

Truth be told, the more she examined it, the greater the differences became.  No giant penny, no mechanical dinosaur, no old Robin and Catwoman costumes stored in glass cases, no Batmobile--at least not that she recognized...

She was definitely far from home.

The Cave itself was vastly different... one huge echoing cavern with a raised area that blinked with lights to one side and a ceiling lost in uncertainty. The sound of running water came from one side, and the smell of water was also strong.

The area she stood in was largely dark, studded with large stalactites.

One of which suddenly moved. The next thing Helena knew there was a huge, hideous toothy face within inches of hers.

Crossbow... Crossbow... Dammit, you don't have that. You got some batarangs but not another one of those made-up...

"I don't suppose you'd believe this is all some kind of mistake?"

"Who's there?" demanded a male voice from the direction of the computer. "Ace, hold them!"

The creature glanced that way, then reached out a small hand to gently stroke Helena's hair. -Family.-

Well, this was different. Going from nearly being attack to being comforted. "Er... hello?"

A light suddenly illuminated the area, allowing her to fully see the creature, which was some sort of massive bipedal... eek. The light itself was held by a floating sphere that hovered over the head of a tall, broad-shouldered man in a black tunic that was marked with a deep blue Bat-like marking and pants of the same colour that were tucked into high boots. With the light in her face she could see nothing else of him.

The creature rumbled softly and moved away from her, then watched with a mild curiosity that seemed to clash with its appearance.

"Whoever you are, standing on my father's grave isn't a very good way to introduce yourself," said the man gruffly.

"Sorry," she replied, as she got to her feet. "I didn't mean to. Had no idea how I was going to drop in. Or that I was going to drop in here at all."

As she moved her shadow fell away from one of the rock pillars behind her and exposed an inscription burned into the rock which read simply,

Bruce Wayne

She can't help but shed a tear. Not here too...

Lon frowned as he moved so that the river breeze blew from the woman to him and the light fell more clearly on her face. "What's wrong?"

"I'm sorry... It's just..." She shook her head. "I didn't expect that another one of him might be dead."

"Merciful life...." he murmured as he caught her scent.

The droid floated slowly over behind Helena, the light it carried now illuminating Lon's face. Helena would recognize where the greater majority of his looks came from, though the slit pupils and slightly pointed ears might make her wonder.

"God... you look like him..."

"He's my father." He frowned and held out a hand, both offering comfort and asking her to move off the grave. "And yours too... in your reality."

She took the hand, stepping off the grave. "Yeah... I guess so." A smallish grin managed to work it's way across her face. "All of which means I'm still not home."
