DK-Verse: Batcave?: On the Road Again (and Again)

Great.  One moment she was in the Nexus--having previously been in a Gotham more than three hundred years in her future--the next she's in the Batcave.  Only... it's definitely not her Batcave.  Some of the souvenirs were off, for one thing.  And, well, she just had a sense about this kind of thing.

Truth be told, the more she examined it, the greater the differences became.  No giant penny, no mechanical dinosaur, no old Robin and Catwoman costumes stored in glass cases, no Batmobile--at least not that she recognized...

She was definitely far from home.

She shook her head. "Don't worry about it. I'll muddle through."

He smiled at her, then took a large rounded block that Ace offered him and set it in the pit. A quick flick of some tool in his hand had it blazing with a low, intense light which he let burn for a few minutes before setting a dented wire grill over it and then filling the caf pot and setting it to boil.

The fish were swiftly cleaned with the efficiency of a task done so often that one no longer needs to think of it, then stuffed with a handful of greenery that he pulled out of a pouch and set on the grill next to the caf pot.

Through this all Ace loomed like a friendly nightmare in the background, occasionally rumbling or playing around with small stones.

"Okay, judging by Ace there and all... this," and she gave an expansive gesture that encompassed the cave, "I've got to be in the future. Relatively speaking, anyway. When am I?"

He sat back on his heels, absently wiping his hands on a cloth. "It's the first year of the New Republic. Galactic year ____."
