DK-Verse: Batcave?: On the Road Again (and Again)

Great.  One moment she was in the Nexus--having previously been in a Gotham more than three hundred years in her future--the next she's in the Batcave.  Only... it's definitely not her Batcave.  Some of the souvenirs were off, for one thing.  And, well, she just had a sense about this kind of thing.

Truth be told, the more she examined it, the greater the differences became.  No giant penny, no mechanical dinosaur, no old Robin and Catwoman costumes stored in glass cases, no Batmobile--at least not that she recognized...

She was definitely far from home.

"You must be joking!"

"No," said Lon as they flew over the lit cityscape. "But we don't work on the upper levels."

"Somehow... I thought you might say that," she chuckled.

Pru smiled. "The lowermost levels belong to Huntress... the Huntress of this place, but we work about five levels down."

"I see," she said. "Deep enough to get away from the glitter of the top, but not so deep as to deal with the unthinkable."

"As deep as the memory of law penetrates," said Lon soberly. "Any lower and the beings are too desperate for survival to listen to anything humanoid."

"Amazing," she said, looking through the window. "Just... amazing. This kind of scale boggles the mind."

"This is the Galactic Capital, and the seat of government for the New Republic," said Pru, her eyes taking in the sights they flew over.

"We don't have a single government for one planet, let alone a whole galaxy," she noted.
