Goliath looked out over the large room, his eyes resting on the gathering of the Manhattan clans and their friends and kin. Everyone was there but for their alternate brethren and Lex and Emily. The latter two were watching the event via closed-circuit television from Lex's hospital room, and the former... well, he hoped they were going to be here soon.

Behind him Hudson muttered and grumbled nervously, and he glanced over his shoulder. "Peace, old friend. All will be well."

"Sez the bloke that just hit the wall agin this verra mornin'," returned Hudson with uncharacteristic heat, then sighed and turned away to pace.

Goliath closed the door to the groom's room and walked over to pour the old gargoyle a drink of the wine that David had brought in earlier.

That worthy individual was contemplating the window, his hands folded behind his back. "Claw's new wife is a lovely woman."

"Aye." Hudson knocked back his drink and slumped into a chair. "Part 'o me's wishin' Lucy 'n I had just done as they did."

"No you're not," said Goliath calmly. "You decided on this for Lucy."

"Aye." The old one sighed.

And there were amused glances all around as they watched the happy couple.

Camera flashes went off as the two held the decorated knife and made the first cut on the beautiful but simple cake, and then as Hudson carefully fed his bride the first bite. And then laughter went through the human crowd as Lucy squashed a pit up Hudson's nose, much to his astonishment.

And there was much applause from the audience.

"How could he not know about that, with all the TV he watches?" Broadway shook his head and laughed, then stepped forward to serve the rest of the cake, which was a flavorful lemon pound cake with flavorful filling and icing. No ornate, tasteless cake here.

"What the...." Hudson wiped his face on a napkin, giving the laughing Lucy bemused looks.

Brooklyn, who was closer than some of the others, just laughed. "Tradition, Hudson. Totally tradition."

"And nae a one thought tae warn me?"

"As much TV as you watch? I'd have thought you'd have seen it. At least Goliath had an excuse when I pulled that on him."

Hudson grumbled about 'bloody traitorous soaps', but then softened as Lucy brought over a plate of cake and offered it, squinching her face as though expecting to wear some. "Ach, lass, I'll nae mucky yer fur. Let's jes eat it, aye?"

"Aaaaw," Elisa groans, in a kidding tone.

"He's a worse suck than Goliath." Elisa shook her head sadly.

"Yes," rumbled the man in question, then did a double take and gave his wife a reproachful look.

Which got a laugh out of Elisa and rolled eyes from Goliath. "I swear, if they had their eyes closed, nobody'd be able to tell us apart."

"That surprises you?" asked Goliath wryly.

"Eh, different circumstances make different people... But I guess the basics really don't change."
