She still wasn't home.  Dammit, she still wasn't home!

Another Cave of some kind... there was definitely a Robin costume over there, but also much more spartan than the ones she'd seen before.  Which meant sooner or later, she was going to run into more relatives.  Or near relatives.  Or something.

Frankly, Helena was homesick beyond words.

"I lived at a safe house for mutants, which went underground when the persecution became extreme... literally." Mykayla looked down. "Then, after several years, mutants were nominally granted rights, though the hazing and attacks continued unofficially. During the years that we were underground my husband Ibrihim and I adopted a baby girl who'd been aborted because of her X-gene. My younger brother, who had suffered a similar fate several years before, also lived with us."

She paused, her eyes distant as she remembered Zach and Zipporah... and Ibrihim, the big man who'd been so gentle and kind.

Mykayla shook her head slightly. "Zach would go out patrolling with me or alone. His enhanced rate of healing gave him a lot of energy, and I couldn't keep up with him anymore."

Those words were said with a smile, which widened as she said, "He was engaged to my best friend's daughter, Rhea, and they were already making plans for their life together."
