Clone City. The main assembly room. Jav and 'Mu come for a visit.

Jav looked around as he and his wife stepped through the portal, still thinking that Fi was nuts.

But then he blinked as they came into a huge room (it must have been intended as some sort of hanger) that teemed with clones. All were busy pursuing recreational activities as diverse as sitting and listening to someone talk or playing DDR on the row of machines against the inner wall. Others were good-naturedly yakking away to the accompaniment of mild violence and laughter. And here and there one could be seen seriously teaching some small colourful pet toy this command or activity.

The hyper clone's mouth spread into a wide grin as he reached for Jeimu's hand. "Would ye lookit that?"

She hit the green button that would start the song, then crouched slightly, her face set.

It was a fast one.

Boss was ready when this one started, and managed to keep up though he was wondering about the missing arrows on Jeimu's side of the game.

And then halfway through the song a piercing infant shriek of terror echoed through the rec room and he started and stumbled.

Jeimu did one better.

She fell right off the pad.

He stooped and picked her up, then set her on her feet and strode toward the sound to investigate.

"Ow."

Whatever she'd hit, she was pretty sure it wasn't supposed to bruise the way it was. She hobbled after Boss, leaving the machine to fail them out of the song and cycle into "Game Over" mode.

"T'under." Jav came up beside her and absently caught her hand. "What's the kid screaming for? Kal won't hurt it."

"Maybe he's used to his mother?" Jeimu shrugged, rubbing her back and wincing.

"He hasn't got one," said a random Commando. "He's like Ang. Like us. They were going to throw them away, Charlie said."

"Them?" Jav pulled Jeimu close and gently rubbed her back for her.

Then his head snapped around as Ordo thundered past in the hall, Niner in close pursuit with a laughing blond baby held out in front of him.

She grunted slightly as he rubbed her bruise, then straightened a little.

"Okay, what was that about?" She thumbed after Ordo and Niner.
