Bloody Wagner's verse; Xavier's institute; Waking Love

Kurt slowly rocked his daughter. Eyes closed he sang a soft German lullaby to her, tears splashing down his cheeks again as he waited by his wife's bedside. She wasn't awake yet.

He rocked his child, his beautiful baby girl. She was a treasure in his arms, and every time he looked at her he became more resolved. He was going to get her away from this planet, as soon as possible. Once Joy woke up he'd take them back to the castle, to their world, and he'd keep them there. Safe.

He sighed. If only she'd wake up....

Joy's ears moved in a slight frown, her eyes creasing at the corners without opening.

Kurt blinked. Instinct nagged at him, and he looked over. Joy's eyes....

He sat up with a small gasp, then was at her side in a flash.

"Liebe," he murmured.

She sucked in her breath at the sound of his voice, and her eyelids started to move as she tried to remember how to open them.

Her eyelids finally lifted, and those fathomless dark eyes looked up at him, shadowed by weakness and pain. Her lips moved slightly.

He stroked her cheek. "Shh, liebe. It's ok. Rest, ve are all safe here."

"Ze babe. It's a girl," he said softly, showing it to her. Joy and love shone in his eyes. "Liebe... ve haff a daughter."

"She's ours. You vent into some kind of coma, zen a labor. Logan assisted vith ze birth, und zen a friend of yours came und helps us heal you," he said, offering her the babe.

A slight slight nod. She believed him. But when she tried to move her arms and wings to accept the babe... not much happened other than a soft gasp as her head spun.

"Shh, och, careful," he mumured, sitting the medtable up like Hank had shown him, gently arranging her arms and placing the babe in them. "It's ok, liebe, I've got you. I'm here. Und so is ze babe. Our child, Joy, ours." He laughed softly, almost desperatley. He watched her, praying she could forgive him, and take joy in the blessing they'd been sent.

Her ears twitched slightly as her eyes smiled down at the baby.

Then she looked up at the laugh, her brows drawing together slightly with concern.

"Please... say somezing," he said softly, looking at her, eyes glistening. "Please? Just a glance. Ze var is near over. Ve can go back home... ve can raise our baby girl... please, just a nod... tell me I can earn your forgiveness...."

She perked her ears, not understanding.

Her mouth worked a little as she tried to get her voice to work, and finally a single word came out, questioning and soft.

"Vat I did... it was desperation. Var vas never... it wasn't my first solution. Und I never, ever meant for it to hurt you," he said softly, wiping away his tears. "All I vant... all I've ever vanted... is to take you to a safe vorld, far away from all of zis... raise a family... I love you, Joy, you are my sun und moon und stars und sun. I vould never hurt you, und I vould move mountains to prove my love und devotion, und earn your forgiveness for vat I haff done."

She shook her head, content to have him near. But then she put her ears back and tried to murmur softly as the baby started to fuss. "Ach... cauld."

She turned toward him as best she could, baby tucked between them as she snuggled her head under his chin and sighed with satisfaction. She wanted to put her upper wing over him in a hug, but couldn't muster the strength.

He moved them into their usual cuddling position, including her wing, then wrapped his arms around her. "Mein liebe..." he murmured.
