Gargoyles 'Verse: Castle Wyvern: We are Family

The notion of slipping from one universe to the next when they felt like it was an alluring one, and the members of the Manhattan Clan of the universe where Elisa Maza had become a Gargoyle and where Brooklyn had danced the corridors of time and returned with a new family intended to enjoy it when possible.  So when an invitation had been extended, some of them had jumped at the chance.  With the mess going on with Angela right now, it was good to get the kids out of the house.

"Now," Brooklyn said as he, Katana, Nashville, and Tachi appeared in the courtyard, "you kids are gonna be on your best behavior, right?"

"Uh-huh," Tachi said.

"Yes, Dad," Nash added, rolling his eyes.

"And if the other me is there, what did I say to do?"

"Not listen to a word he says," Tachi giggled.

"Right."

Hudson looked up with a guilty start from where he'd been standing with Lucy wrapped in his wings. "Och! Yer here already."

"Forgive us," Katana said. "Getting the children ready to go usually proves quite the chore." She gave Nash a look. He rolled his eyes.

"But hey, we're here," Brooklyn grinned. "How's Jane?"

"She's well." Hudson lowered his wings and caped them, and Lucy grinned mischievously at their visitors, her brown eyes twinkling. "Havin' a little sleep."

"Enjoy it while you can," Brooklyn laughed. "They grow up all too fast."

"I know," said the old gargoyle quietly, though he was smiling. "I've still raised more than you've seen, lad."

He cracked a beaky grin. "Yeah, but it's one thing to be a Clan parent. It's another to do the whole "Dad" thing."

Hudson just shook his head, then nodded to his guests' clothing. "Yer no goin' out like that?"

"What? You don't think the future commando look is appropriate?" Brooklyn laughed. But he indicated the bag he was carrying in his right hand. "Brought some stuff with us."

"Might git ye some strange looks 'n odder attention than ye'd wish." He didn't seem aware of his arm stealing around Lucy's waist, and she herself was looking innocently into the distance.

One hasty change later (in which Brooklyn doffed portions of his armor and donned a leather jacket and blue jeans, while Katana and the children simply settled for throwing on jeans over their usual attire) and they were a bit less inconspicuous.

"My mate just might prefer that," Katana said, with her usual small smile. "He has always seemed quite desiring of attention."

"Trust me, he wouldn't like this kind. It creeps our Brooklyn out," said Lucy from where she now sat on a deck chair giving Jane her bottle. The furry baby was wrapped only in her wings today, and her tiny plump hands were busy exploring them and her toes as she ate.

Tachi squeed over the baby. "Oh, she's so cute! She's all fuzzy!"

Lucy chuckled as Jane let go her bottle to look toward the squeal, then gave a grin at the new face. "Want to hold her?"

Tachi grinned a beaky-grin of her own, but looked to her mother. "Can I, Mom?"

Katana nodded. "I believe that would be all right."

"Here." The little mutate nodded to one of the smaller chairs. "Sit down and snug yourself against the back... there's room for your tail. Then hold out your arms."

Tachi did as she was asked, and held out her arms.

Lucy carefully tucked Jane into them, then handed the little gargoyle the bottle and showed her how to feed the baby, who was gazing up at her with friendly interest.

"Hi," Tachi said softly, looking into Jane's face. "I'm Tachi."

Jane's little hairless eyebrows went up, and then she cracked a grin. "Agooo."

Nash, meanwhile, rolled his eyes again. "What is it with girls and babies?"

"Och, laddie, I like 'em too." Hudson chuckled and walked over to look down at his daughter, who ignored him in favor of bottle and new friend.

Nash got a thwap on the back on the head from Brooklyn. "Trust me on this one, kid. Sooner or later, you're gonna like 'em too."

"Aaaw, maaaaan," Nash whined.

Kat patted Brooklyn affectionately on the shoulder. "Never doubt that he is your son. I recognize that noise very well."

"Kaaaaat," Brooklyn groaned.

"Aye." Hudson's grin went a little mischievous. "Does me good tae see ye've a lad jes' like yerself."

"Given how often our you claimed I was responsible for ninety percent of his gray hairs..."

"Aye, too bad ye started out white." Hudson chuckles, then grins as Jane finishes eating and reaches for him. "Och, lassie, ye ready fer Dad now?"

She breathed excitedly and wriggled for all she was worth, causing Lucy to quickly take her from Tachi before she wriggled herself out of the little girl's arms.
