Gargoyles 'Verse: Castle Wyvern: We are Family

The notion of slipping from one universe to the next when they felt like it was an alluring one, and the members of the Manhattan Clan of the universe where Elisa Maza had become a Gargoyle and where Brooklyn had danced the corridors of time and returned with a new family intended to enjoy it when possible.  So when an invitation had been extended, some of them had jumped at the chance.  With the mess going on with Angela right now, it was good to get the kids out of the house.

"Now," Brooklyn said as he, Katana, Nashville, and Tachi appeared in the courtyard, "you kids are gonna be on your best behavior, right?"

"Uh-huh," Tachi said.

"Yes, Dad," Nash added, rolling his eyes.

"And if the other me is there, what did I say to do?"

"Not listen to a word he says," Tachi giggled.

"Right."

Hudson looked up with a guilty start from where he'd been standing with Lucy wrapped in his wings. "Och! Yer here already."

"Forgive us," Katana said. "Getting the children ready to go usually proves quite the chore." She gave Nash a look. He rolled his eyes.

"But hey, we're here," Brooklyn grinned. "How's Jane?"

"She's well." Hudson lowered his wings and caped them, and Lucy grinned mischievously at their visitors, her brown eyes twinkling. "Havin' a little sleep."

"Here." The little mutate nodded to one of the smaller chairs. "Sit down and snug yourself against the back... there's room for your tail. Then hold out your arms."

Tachi did as she was asked, and held out her arms.

Lucy carefully tucked Jane into them, then handed the little gargoyle the bottle and showed her how to feed the baby, who was gazing up at her with friendly interest.

"Nay, she doesnae." He gently rubbed Jane's back as she turned her head to look at Brooklyn. "But her eyes glow when she's surprised."

"We're thinking she's a pretty even mix," said Lucy softly.

He nodded slightly. "Huh. Go fig. Fifty-fifty from each, and one hundred percent cute."

"Told ye she didn' look like me." Hudson twinkled down at Lucy, then grunted as she elbowed him in his Hawaiian shirted belly.

"You're cute, get it through your thick skull."

"Och, nae! I dinnae do cute!"

Hudson finished with Jane, then ducked his head and stole a kiss from Lucy before looking up and walking over to jump up on the wall.

Lucy grinned, then... vanished.

"Now how the heck did she do that?" Brooklyn mused.

Hudson grinned and then swooped downward to land easily on the sidewalk in front of the theater. Pedestrians grumbled at him, but walked around without mishap.

"Make way!" He told them, holding out his hands. "Watch out! There's more comin'."

Brooklyn landed next, Tachi making a more awkward landing after him, and Nash and Kat landing about the same time.

"Well, Jane has them. And our next baby might too." She smiled at the little girl.

Katana smiled, an amused twinkle in her eyes. "More children? Are you attempting to give poor Hudson a heart attack?"

"He doesn't need to be making rude personal comments." The woman scowled at her son, who gave her a look of sullen chagrin in return.

"He made the comment to me, and I wasn't offended," said Lucy quietly. "You can't learn without asking questions."

Then she turned to the boy. "No, I don't. That gene jumped over me. But my daughter has them, see?"

The boy's face lightened with wonder, and even his mother blinked as she just then noticed the bundle strapped to Hudson's chest. "Awww."

"See, Nash?" Brooklyn chuckled. "He likes babies."

Nash did his trademark eyeroll. "Yeah, yeah, yeah."

Her small elbow gave his an encouraging nudge. "Diamonds are better for the heat and pressure."

"Yeah, you're right."

"Thought ye liked public displays 'o affection," said Hudson dryly as he creaked to his feet and stepped into the now empty aisle.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. You'll get yours, old man," he chuckled.

Hudson just chuckled and kicked Brooklyn under the table as Lucy noted Jane reaching and passed her to Katana.

Ignoring her mate's muttered protests, Katana held baby Jane gently and looked down into her face, before beginning to speak to her in Japanese.

"< You are a beautiful baby, little Jane. Did you know that? Of course you did. >"

"Aboo!" She grinned adorably, then looked at the waiter as he came for their order and gaped at her in wonder.

Katana smiled at her again, a full smile, rather than just the smallish ones she usually favored.
