Gargoyles 'Verse: Castle Wyvern: We are Family

The notion of slipping from one universe to the next when they felt like it was an alluring one, and the members of the Manhattan Clan of the universe where Elisa Maza had become a Gargoyle and where Brooklyn had danced the corridors of time and returned with a new family intended to enjoy it when possible.  So when an invitation had been extended, some of them had jumped at the chance.  With the mess going on with Angela right now, it was good to get the kids out of the house.

"Now," Brooklyn said as he, Katana, Nashville, and Tachi appeared in the courtyard, "you kids are gonna be on your best behavior, right?"

"Uh-huh," Tachi said.

"Yes, Dad," Nash added, rolling his eyes.

"And if the other me is there, what did I say to do?"

"Not listen to a word he says," Tachi giggled.

"Right."

Ignoring her mate's muttered protests, Katana held baby Jane gently and looked down into her face, before beginning to speak to her in Japanese.

"< You are a beautiful baby, little Jane. Did you know that? Of course you did. >"

The fuzzy baby chuckled and grinned up at her, reaching a little hand to try and stick her fingers in her mouth.

"Watch out," said Lucy softly. "She likes getting hold of people's lower lips."

Katana smiled and gently pushed Jane's fingers away from her mouth. "Nashville was much the same way."

"So were some of my cousins." Lucy perked her ears toward a conversation in the kitchen, then chuckled and looked at Hudson.

"Aye, why not?" He grinned back, taking her hand.

"Why not what?"

"Ye always were dense as a rock, Brooklyn," notes Hudson, grinning wider.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah," he muttered.

Katana smiled that smile she had when she wanted to laugh but showed restraint. "And you wonder why our son is the way he is."

Hudson just chuckled and squeezed Lucy's hand, then looked at the others. "Lucy 'n I are expectin' another bairn."

"Boo," added Jane softly, reaching for Kat's mouth again.

Kat smiled, but carefully moved her head out of the way, tickling Jane under the chin. "I suspected as much."

"Congrats," Brooklyn said.

"Thank you." The tiny furry woman leaned against her husband, then perked as a basket of hot rolls was set on the table along with a cup of herbed butter.

"Oooo!" Jane reached toward it with both hands, one wing claw catching on the front of Katana's top.

Katana smiled indulgently. "Careful, little one. You do not wish to cause an accident."

"Bv?" Big brown eyes turned up to her quizzically.

Still talking to her softly, Katana unstuck Jane's claw from her tunic. "That's right," she said. "There will always be time for fun, but we must always be mindful of our actions."
