Patchverse; Hell: Pain

It was midday in Hell when Jubilee toppled out of thin air, banging into a table and then hitting the floor with a loud thud and disrupting the mellow mealtime with a low moan. She was still wearing the outfit she'd snuck away in, but now the clothes were a little tighter, and her jeans were an inch too short for her legs.

Her face, though strained in a grimace of pain and glossy from sweat, was still hers, but looked aged about two years, and likewise her hair was almost a foot longer, reaching her lower back and sparkling with static electricity.

She lay in a crumpled heap, shivering and whimpering, then rolled over on her back, gasping as her body trembled.

"Wolvie...." she sobbed softly before blacking out.

Dragon had run over instantly, and now he gently scoops her up and brings her up to his family's apartment, carefully laying her in a bed made from an old mini trampoline before hurrying to phone the Wolfpack Brownstone.

One hates to think of the speed limit he must have driven at, but it's very few minutes afterward that a short stocky figure with a frog on his collar thunders up the stairs and gives the big barkeep a desperate look.

"Second bedroom," says Dragon.

Initially and impulsively jerking away from the touch, by the time Patch got there Jubilee had calmed and gone completely still. Her basic nervous system regulators were shot and as such she no longer emmited a heartbeat, breathing illusion, or scent, leaving her sitting cold and still, the muffled sound of mechanical cogs replacing the usual heartbeat in her chest.

"Jubilee?" His gravelly voice is even rougher than usual. "Darlin', kin ya hear me?"

There was a small twitch, then a whimper as her eyes fluttered open. As soon as she achieved a level of consciousness, however, she started to shake again, and then she shut down almost as quickly as she woke.

He growls and calls for Charlie, only to nearly put his fist through the wall as he got the mental equivalent of a busy signal. "God, whad'm I supposeta do?"

At the sound of his voice Jubilee made another attempt at waking, this time staying conscious for a moment, gasping slightly and strying to curl.

"Wolvie," she whimpered, struggling to keep her eyes open.

"What's wrong, darlin'?" He leans over her. "Who hurt ya?"

"Me," she trembled then turned a palm up towards him, all she could do to ask for a hug.

He puts a hand to her cheek, fearful of causing her more pain. "What?"

She winced, then nuzzled his hand as best she could, tears appearing in her eyes.

"I did it... Wolvie... it hurts," she sobbed softly, voice caught in her throat.

"How d'we fix it?" He gently moves to gather her into his arms, ready to stop at the first sign that it's causing her too much pain.

She trembled and grimaced, but it felt better to be with someone she trusted, so she worked to hide it and clung.

"Can't... my head... the pain receptors won't turn off," she gasped as she tried again, then went rigid as she shut down again, still clinging to him.

-Charlie!- the mental roar probably has telepaths within a two block radius of the place stopping and looking up.

-What??- snaps the man in question, then, -Oh! I'll send someone right away.-

Jubilee's face was pale and stretched looking, her breathing turned off again as she tried to restart fruitlessly.

"Oh, Jubee." Jubal's suddenly there, kneeling next to the impromptu bed and setting his shining hands on her. "Shhh, I coulda' fixed this alot quicker, chica."

"Don't give'er a hard time," growls Patch.

She gasped and whimpered, rebooting automatically as an external force changed her.

As she was repaired her skin seemed to loosen and regained it's healthy look and coloring, and with it brought a new and slightly older look. She whimpered again and shook, though now it was more out of fear than pain.

"J-Jubal?" she said, then looked up. "Wolvie! I'm sorry," she whimpered, the shaking increasing dramatically as she takes in his reaction to her illness.

"Shh." He holds her close and strokes her hair. "Jes' take it easy, darlin'. I gotcha."

"I messed it up. I couldn't fix it," she turned her face to hide against his chest, still shaking and sobbing. "I'm sorry, Wolvie, really."

"Shh, darlin'. Shhh. It's alright." He rocks her, distressed by her distress and not really understanding what she's talking about.

She sobbed for a while longer, then gradually quieted and just shivered slightly in his arms, every once in a while hiccuping and rubbing her arms and cheeks as if to ensure their comfortable adjustment.

"I gotcha," says Logan softly, aware that Jubal's vanished again.

She shivered and snuggled against him.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to mess it up," she trembled.

"Mess what up, darlin'?" He tightens his grip on her carefully.

"I wanted to look older," she sniffed. "But I messed it up. I didn't build in the right order."

"Shhh. It's alright."

She shivered, then looked up at him. "Are you mad?" she asked softly.

"No, Jubilation. I ain't mad." Though the worry and pain shows in his eyes despite himself.

"I acted real dumb," she whispered. "But I won't again, Wolvie, I promise."

"Shh, darlin'. It don' matter. What matters' is yer back 'n yer safe," he says firmly.

She blinked blearily, then nodded and looked up at him. "Is Arnold ok?"

"He's fine. Got the floor 'o 'is cage covered in chewed paper."

She nodded, then snuggled again. "How long was I gone?"

"Dunno. I quit keepin' track." He rumbles softly, making her favorite soothing sound.

She winced. "I'm sorry," she said again.

"Quit that." He rubs her back. "Y' tired?"

"A little," she said softly, then looked up at him. "Can we go home, Wolvie?"

"Sure, darlin'." He gets to his feet, chuckling slightly as Tikvah's frog form hops over to sit on Jubilee's cheek.

Jubes sighed contently, then fell back asleep in his arms, still slutching the front of his jacket.

He sighs and carries her out of the apartment and down the stairs and out the back way and then home, where he carefully gets her shoes off and tucks her into her own bed. Tikvah vanishes with a little flash, and he can feel her hand on his shoulder as he straightens.

"I'm alright, darlin'. I'm jes' fine now."
