Joy stood at the window and looked out through the crack in the curtain, ears perked to catch all the sounds of the place. Behind her on the bed Kurt slept, occasionally making small sounds in his sleep.
One ear went back as she thought of the day before, when she had met with him in a meadow intending to offer a friendly ear in his time of sadness. Instead she'd accidently inspired an avowal of love from the drunken man; one that she was under no delusions that he would even remember, much less uphold, when he woke. She looked too much like her mother's people for any Terran human, no matter how altered physically themselves, to see her as attractive. It was a fact and it didn't bother her.
Her thoughts turned then to her family, whom she hadn't seen since the World Outside Time had sent her away. Intent on the memories, she forgot about the one she was protecting and everything else around her.

He looked at her and bit his lip, remembering the kissing and the desperation he'd felt... still feels, only now with a clearer head.
But now he's embarassed by his actions, and doesn't know how to make it up to the beautiful woman.

His smile fell away, and for a moment it seemed like the mirror was only showing him Mara's face disapearing.
He leaned against the sink, shoulders hunched, then took a deep breath and turned on the faucet, starting to clean himself up.
