Logan ducked, then winced and looked up, eyes wide.

"What the-?" he winced, then tried to push the mech's hands away, wanting to go over and see what it was. "Hey, are you alright?"

Bumblebee stops as she sees what hit the sign, then changes direction to kneel beside the still figure. "Zoe, go get Ratchet!"

"Yes, ma'am!" She sets Logan aside and climbs to her feet, then steps right over him on her way to the portal.

Bumblebee scans the man on the ground and winces, praying that Ratchet's still on base and that the portal stays open. This guy hasn't got long.

Logan gots up, then hurried over and knelt.

"Who... ugh," he felt sick, partially from the readings he was getting from the guy, but mostly because of his face. "Who...?"

"Don't touch him," says Bumblebee softly. "He's burned so bad that it could put him over the edge."

"I know," Logan looked like he was going to be sick. "Need a healer."

"Our medic is coming." She looks around at the curious onlookers gathering around and shakes her head, her discomfort with crowds rendering her mute.

Logan moved back, the X Man in him taking over as his raised his shields.

"Get back, give him room," he said, voice loud and commanding. "Make room for the big robots."

"Autobots," says a red-haired guy that has just rushed through the portal. Then he lifts his voice and heads for the other side. "You heard the man. Let's have some space here!"

"Who're you?" he said, blinking but helping him to usher out the last few rubbernecks.

"Call me Mac." He turns his head as the door opens again and a twenty foot yellow mech strides over and kneels next to Bumblebee.

Logan turned and looked at him, trying to figure out if this was the former Herald, or the deadbeat, or another one.

The newcomer mists the wounded man with something from a sprayer, then frowns down at him even as he's pulling a folding stretcher out of his kit. "I don't know if there's anything I can do, but I'll try."

Bumblebee nods silently, still praying.

Logan turned around.

"Is he conscious?" he asked, knowing patients had a better chance of survival if they were conscious.

The medic shakes his head, then very gently gets the stretcher under his patient and starts hooking him to portable life support units.

"Need a hand, Ratch?" Mac pauses by the stretcher and looks down with a hand over his mouth.

"I have it, Mac. Thank you," says the yellow mech absently.

Bumblebee turns her head to look at Logan.

"You know him?" Her voice is a whisper. She's noticed how hard the boy is staring at the wounded man's face.

"He... biological dad alt," he said horsely, then knelt down next to the figure and and closed his eyes. He wasn't good at touching minds directly, but he needed to try.

Closing his eyes he managed to push his own thoughts out of his head, then extended his consciousness, preparing to deflect any pain or major emotion that would hurt the man.

-Dude... wake up.-

Pain there is, but he's too deeply unconscious even be really aware of it. His mind is flickering weakly, only a whisper of life.

Bumblebee makes a soft electronic sound and puts a hand on Logan's back.

Logan wasn't aware of her, blocking off the pain and then reaching out, offering his own strength to support the life.

-Shh, I got you,- he said, face slightly contorted with the effort to keep up the connection.

The medic finishes hooking up the respirator, then pauses to study the readouts and make sure that everything's running properly.

Bumblebee frowns with concern at the absent look on the blue-haired boy's face.

Logan had started looking paler, but a hand reached out and clamped on the man's wrist, shoulders squared with determination.

A young blue-haired woman who looked tired and sad came over.

"What's going...." her words faltered when she saw the man on the floor, then the younger boy on the floor next to him.

"No, stop! Don't...." The medic pauses to scan the boy and then frowns and moves to tap him with one finger.

"No!" Mara's snapped out of her shocked silence and lunged forward, grabbing the hand. "Leave him alone. He's helping!"

Logan's head bowed, and he gave a soft sigh in relief as he found the telepathic channel and hooked onto it, taking some of the strain off.

The mech freezes, his optics widening slightly at the sudden motion. "What do you mean? His vital signs are showing distress. And touching someone who's burned this badly can cause infection or other damage."

"He won't. He's protecting his mind, and giving him a link. Please, trust me," Mara said, eyes big as she stood between the boy she knew to be her son and the robot. "Let him help."

"I don't understand." The big hand hovers as he frowns down at her. Bumblebee watches in uneasy silence.

"He's linked his mind with Jubal's, to keep him alive," she said softly, turning back to look at Logan. "It'll help."

-C'mon... where are you? Where are you?- Logan called into the dark space, frustrated. He needed to find the man's consciousness and try a to wake him up a little.

"Jubal," he rumbles thoughtfully, turning his processor toward things he can understand. "You know them?"
