He nodded quickly.

"That's what you tell Ratchet," he said.

"Yes. But I don't hate him. I respect him a great deal." He gives his grandson a half grin. "But I'd rather lose parts than admit it. When you get to be our age we don't say things like that."

"Why not?" he looked confused.

Ironhide sighs and leans back against the wall, pulling Startracker with him. "We've both lived a very long time. And the last vorns... when you don't know if you're still going to have a friend the next cycle, or even the next nanoclick... you start putting up walls. And... I'm a bad example."

Yeah, like you've heard Grandma tell him.

Startracker frowned, then leaned against him absently.

"But... you're a great warrior, n' big and tough," he said. "And you've got the biggest cannons ever."

He can't stop a smirk and a glance at said cannons. But then he sobers. "That doesn't make one a good example. I also overcharge too much, swear too much, and...."

"And what, grandpa?" he asked, looking up at him with an eager face. It was clear that no matter what the old mech said, this youngster would hang off of every word.

"Irritate Chromia too much." Which is why he's currently sleeping in the front courtyard of the hanger at night.
