Nexus. Arcee's room in the safehouse. Meeting Kia

Arcee sighs and creaks to her feet, then limps over to her desk and sets the little Bumblebee doll next to the little Ratchet. "Well, that didn't work. Let's hope Ratchet has a better plan, because I don't like how your engine sounds, kid."

As expected there's no reply from the little silver being under her berth, and she sighs and leaves the room to go wait in the common room and see if there's anything worth watching on TV.

"I was afraid of that." Arcee's expression goes grumpy as she gets up to get the mug off her desk and hand it to Kia. "People come and go. Generally the different groups keep to themselves, though there's a femme here that's been LOL'd into a feline shell who'll befriend anyone who rubs her ears and speaks to her kindly. She and her brother already have a young bot to take care of... and push come to shove, I found this one, so I guess I'm responsible for her."

Kia looks in the mug and blinks, then sticks her finger in it.

Ratchet is quiet for a few minutes while he finishes cleaning himself off, sliding the sponge back into the basin again afterwards. He sighs, watching Kia. "I suppose if you find someone you can trust who is used to dealing with sparklings, they could at least 'share custody' with you and give you a hand now and again. It might not hurt to expose her to more bots over time anyway, just not all at once since she's a little skittish. Time with other youngsters might also help her learn a few more things at that level and pacing."

Given Arcee's time in the Nexus, the word 'sparkling' suddenly throws this whole situation into a new perspective.

She gapes for a moment with dismay, then mutters and facepalms. "Slagging... did I just become a mother?"

And Kia tries putting the mug to her mouth like she'd seen Arcee do, only to drop it and spill the contents. "Ughh, Sparks!"

Arcee blinks behind her hand, then shoots a look that's amused despite herself toward Ratchet.

((Okay, easing back into all this... Man, I feel behind.))

The medibot can't help but smirk a little. "'Mother' might be too strong a word. She's not your creation, after all. 'Guardian' might be the better term; it's the one I decided on when I got close to Eleven."

Kia's sudden use of Cybertronian profanity actually makes him grin. "And it sounds like better you than me. I'm already teaching her usage of words I shouldn't...heh."

"I think I can live with that." She scowls, absently rubbing her chest. "Still not sure I want to, but I can."

Then she shakes her head and smacks him for his grin and comment, more out of habit than anything. "Maybe I'll be able to catch one of the people that run this place. I hear their femme Bee has sparklings. Other than that the only person I know of that has any is this Decepticon bug I've run across out by the sign."

Kia's busy trying to eat the energon off her hands and front, but at the smack she blinks and goes wide-eyed. Isn't that a bad thing? Should she be scared? "Ratchet?"

Ratchet takes the smack with a grain of salt. He did kind of ask for it by being a smart aft. The response to it from Kia does take him a bit off guard, though. He doesn't want to tell the youngster they're just playing, otherwise it might give her the idea that smacking others around all the time is just that - play.

"Said something I shouldn't have," he tells Kia as he stands up. "Don't worry. I'm fine."

It's them he remembers something else and take a small device from one of his onboard compartments. "By the way, Arcee, I finished that scanner you wanted. I'm still working on the new booster, but this thing is designed to work with most standard onboard scanning equipment...at least when it comes to us and our technology, anyway."

Arcee also rises to her feet, picking up the dropped mug and quirking a brow ridge as she watches Kia be distracted by the basin and sponge and then start to try and clean herself up. It looked like she was going to have a big puddle to wipe up later.

At Ratchet's words she turns back to him, her faceplate brightening with interest. "Thanks. Oh, speaking of boosters... mine started yelling when I thought Kia'd gone offline. Do you want to take a look?"

She's careful to keep any trace of concern out of her voice and body language, despite the fact that Kia is totally intent on trying to take a bath and to figure out what Ratchet said to her.

"Go ahead and get up on your berth and I'll check it out. I can install the scanner at the same time, though that'll take just a few minutes," Ratchet replies. He casts a glance at Kia a moment, noting what she's doing before turning hi attention back to Arcee. "She'll be a handful alright, but at least she's trying. 'Spose the sooner I get the new booster to you, the better."

The pink femme nods, then notices that there's still some energon in the mug and calls Kia's attention to it before stepping to the berth and laying down. "Something tells me she'll turn out alright. I just hope she doesn't start bouncing off walls like I hear Bumblebee does."

She pops her chest plate open with a sigh. "Don't overwork yourself. I've been taking it easy."

Kia, meanwhile, looks into the cup and thinks long and hard, then manages to successfully drink the rest of the contents.

"I think she's a little timid right now to be acting hyper. That may change given time, but it seems to me she's more eager to please than anything else." As Arcee opens her plating, Ratchet lowers his extra lens and takes a look at the femme's internal workings, focusing on her spark casing and the booster attached to it. "We had some trouble with some 'Cons recently, but we managed to get through things alright. Bumblebee also ran into some Facility nut by the sign and that could have gone better, but at least nothing disastrous came out of it."

Frowning, he makes a very minor adjustment to the booster before turning his attention to installing the scanner. "Looks like your booster is just wearing out from regular use. It should last a while longer, yet, but it might get touchy about things if you're stressed."
