Aidla watches the little creature with absent curiosity, still lost in the wonder of willow whips and feeling protective of her friend's sadness.

-Hmmm. I got a new family. I can't remember if you saw some of them the last time you saw me or not.-

-I didn't really know them.- Her reply is nearly too soft to hear, and her eyes don't leave her work.

"Your parents?" Ed guesses.

She nods, the human gesture of 'yes' no longer awkward.

"My father is--I don't know where the hell he is, actually. He left when I was a little kid so I don't remember much of him. But my mother's dead. She got sick with something and by the time anyone knew about it, it was too late," Ed offers.

-I left as soon as I could feed myself and knew what I was.- She looks at him. -But they were nice. It doesn't seem right that they just disappeared.-

She's still not responding in the normal way, but with the way she grew up just the fact that she's feeling any sadness about it, and empathy for Ed's sadness, is something.

Ed nods. "You said that before although with slightly less detail."

It's a little weird for Ed, but then he's fixated on family since both parents sort of disappeared on him in different ways, leaving himself and his brother alone.

-I don't remember.- She starts threading another whip through the ones she's woven. -And... I don't know why he thinks it is. If he told me I got distracted while he was saying it.-

Ed mulls that one over. "Maybe it involved someone or something that was stronger than he knew?"

Another shrug. -I don't know. Varek says that Elfangor used to be dead.-

Then she remembers why they're here and looks at him quickly with both stalk eyes to see if what she just said was bad.

"I used to be dead too. And I've met or heard about alts of people who are dead back home."

Okay. It didn't make him think of his friend and be sad. She returns her attention to her weaving.

-I think Charlie brought Elfangor back. But that's all I can remember.-

"I've heard about Charlie, but I haven't actually met him or anything," Ed muses. "I know that he's sent someone to meet me before, because that same someone told me. Although he could have picked a better way to tell me that."

He smiles wryly.

Aidla gives him a curious look, wondering what he means.

"Saying something like 'I've been sent to find you' is not the best thing to say to someone who's hiding from people he doesn't want to be found by. Particularly out in the middle of nowhere where there's no one else," Ed clarifies.
