In a new place.... again.

Kurt woke slowly, his head hurting and telling him about his restless night. He turned slightly in his book, and turned, looking up and seeing a large canopy above him. He blinked and looked up, to his surprise seeing a few globes of light hovering above him.

He sat up, finding himself fully clothed, and turned, pushing the curtains aside slightly, only to see Joy, curled up, asleep on the windowsill that only belonged in castles.

He slowly got up and eased off the bed, then went over, picking her up, careful of her wings, doing his best not to wake her as he lifted her and brought her over to the bed, putting her down on it and making her comfortable before he looked around, wondering where they were now.

Joy blinked and turned her head, then stretched hugely and sighed. "Kurt?"

"Shh, liebe, it is alright," he said, gently. "Eh... do you know vere ve are?"

She stretched again, feeling more relaxed than she had in a long time. "Ja. Ve're home."

"Home? Oh, yours," he said, then looked around. "Vhere is it?"

"Outside time." She sat up and looked toward the window. "You can open now, curtain. Globes, a little more light, bitte?"

"huh? Outside time?" Kurt repeated, confused.

"It's called the Vorld Outside Time." She got up and went to the window, which now shone with the friendly blue light of the void. "There's no day or night here, only this. It's a place of refuge und healing. My moeder spent most of her life here, und my vader spent the last nine hundred of his."

"Oh," he said, nodding and looking around before he sat on the edge of the bed, touching his head and sighing. "Und you, liebe, how are you?"

She turned and looked at him questioningly.

"Last night.... you vere talking vith Mara," he said softly, looking at her. "How vos it?"

"Ah." She twitched her ears. "She let me hold her baby. It vas the first time I'd seen vone up close."

He smiled, tentively touching her hand, then looked down. "Is... is she doing vell?"

"She's happy," she said softly, turning her hand slightly so she could catch his in it. "She said ta tell ye she forgives ye."

He looked at her, his fingers grazing her warm palm, and he sighed, eyes glazed in thought.

"Zat... zzat is kind of her," he said softly, then leaned in and gently kissed her cheek. "I'm sorry, fraulin. I haff been nozzing but bad company since ve met.... you deserve better."

"Stop that." She lay her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes, her wings rustling softly as she moved them.

"I'm sorry," he said softly, kissing her cheek again as way of apologizing, before he paused. "Are your parents still here?"

"No," she said softly. "They died long ago."

"Ach, I am sorry," he said, biting his lip.

"Why?" She lifted her head to look at him quizzically, her eyes the same bottomless soft black as always.

"I am sorry you lost your parents. It seems you loved zem very much, und I can not imagine anyvon heartless enough to not love you more zen life," he said.

Her ears twitched slightly as her eyes creased at the corners. "I didn't lose them, leib. I know vere they are."

"I meant.... until you make ze Journey... you vill not see zem again," he said softly.

"Ach." Her ears drooped slightly. "Ja." Then she perked again and caught his hand once more, squeezing his fingers gently. "Are ye hungry, leib?"

"Ja, I think so," he put a hand over his stomach, then squeezed her hand back with a smile.

"Come. The cook'll have something for us in the kitchen." She stood and tugged him gently to his feet, then stopped and flicked her ears uncertainly. "Oh. Do ye vant to vash up first?"
