TG'verse. Prime's compound in Iacon. Sparklets

"Sideswipe wait! I need that!" Red Alert's head snapped around as the black and red femme snatched a datapad from his desk and bolted with it. "Sideswipe!"

He was on his feet and pursuing the sound of her laughter and footsteps down the hall before his second call had died away, tapping into the security feeds on the off chance that she succeeded in outrunning him. So intent on this was he that he didn't see the small form that darted out in front of him till he tripped over it and did a somersault.

"Wow! Windstripe, ya bagged... uh, who is that?"

"That's Red Alert! He's the Head of Security!"

"...Are we gonna go ta jail??"

"Your Head of Security was that easy to take down?"

"Rower!"

Red Alert blinked at the ceiling dazedly, trying to recalibrate his sensors, then squeaked with surprise as a fuzzy face was suddenly less than an inch from his own and a nose touched his. "Uh... hello. What are you doing in Security Headquarters?"

"We're showing Runt around." A sparklet that he recognized as Rodimus and Panacea's shoved the little furry being aside and offered him a hand up.

"Runt?" Red Alert blinked as he sat up, realizing that there were FIVE sparklets running around unsupervised in his building.

"Him. He came with Threnody and Scourge." The little tan and buff femme nodded toward the small green and yellow Seeker who was eying him doubtfully. "Dad asked us to show him around, so we were."

"I don't think he meant this part of the compound." Red Alert made it back to his feet and returned the look, then noticed with horror that it looked like the little red mech was going to cry. The little golden femme had an arm around him protectively and was grinning at the Security Director with a familiar gleam of fun in her blue optics. Wait... that little mech, he looks like Ironhide....

He cleared static from his vocalizer as he remembered his long-dead friend, then looked up as Sideswipe came back to see what had happened to him.

"Wow." The red and black femme blinked at the sparklets. "I didn't realize we had this many of you little guys kicking around. Aren't you supposed to be with that guy that looks like Rodimus when he was Hot Rod?"

Oriana 2 gave her a thoughtful and slightly puzzled look. "Blazer's talking with Dad and the others."

"Oh." Sideswipe absently subspaced Red Alert's datapad. "So... uh... who's watching you guys?"

"I am!" said Oriana 2, giving her a grin that was pure Rodimus.

"Uh... right. Hey, Red, do you have anything you really need to do right now?"

He stared at her blankly, thinking of reports to write and monitors to watch and.... I hate it when she looks at me like that. "No."

"Great!" Sideswipe clapped her hands together. "Let's all go have energon! Sparklets are always hungry, right?"

Three sets of blue optics, one green, and one red were suddenly fixed on her face as every fidget and murmur stalled out of the young ones. Then there was a soft cheer and she was mobbed by eager hugs.

Red Alert barely stopped himself from flailing as young arms wrapped around him as well, his optics going over Oriana 2's head to meet the confused ones of the little Galvatronian. "What's wrong?"

"Uh... what are they doing?" Runt pointed to the other sparklets, frowning.

Sideswipe's jaw dropped as she looked up from her own group glomp. "You don't know what hugs are? What are they teaching you??"

His frown deepened at this hint of criticism toward his superiors. "The same things the other rookies learn."

"Right... Decepticons." Sideswipe sighed and then started urging youngsters and brother toward the nearest exit.

Later, laying on his back in the park, being used as a pillow by sleeping sparklets and still absently sipping at his own globe of flavored frothy energon, Red Alert gave a sigh of contentment. This hadn't been so bad after all.

A hand slipped into his, and Sideswipe grinned at him, then snuggled her head against his shoulder and shut off her optics.

Red Alert felt his grin grow. No, not bad at all.

He just needed to remember to get that datapad back.
