Kurt sighed as he gazed out the window. New home, new view. It wasn't that he disliked the castle, but a part of him missed his home world, even if the X Men and mutant haters were there all along.

But he wouldn't give this place up for anything, it meant so much to his Joy, and it was safe for her. All he wanted was a good home for her. His Joy.... He loved her so much when he saw her he could barely speak, but still, because his courage had failed him completely and the heartbreaks of Ororo and Mara had only just started to pass, he was afraid to do anything but take her on picnics, and sometimes made her a fancy dinner, if he could pursuade the kitchen staff to let him help.

He hated his gutlessness, but he didn't want to rush her, or himself. He wanted things with her to work out right.

She shrugged. "In all the vones I've heard 'o the peace don't come due t' the X-Men, though they're there t' help it vonce tis there."

"Well perhaps a force who can bring about peace will come about," he said softly.

She shrugged again, then put her ears back as Logan's voice came from outside the room.

The professor sent him away, but Ororo slowly came to the door, lokoing in and staring for a moment.

"Professor?" she said.

"Kurt's upstairs. Ororo, I would like you to meet Joy Howlett. Miss Howlett, this is Ororo Munroe, aka Storm," he said, nodding to both women.

"Hello," Ororo said, still looking confused and upset.

"He's nae here on yer account," Joy told her in her soft voice. "But I'd thank ye kindly iffin' ye'd keep yer distance fr'm 'im."

There was no anger in the delivery, no smugness, only stating facts and a kindly air despite her tension and unhappiness at being here.

"Oh, I didn't think, I mean, I thought I might, but then..." Ororo stopped and looked at the professor for a moment, then muttered an "excuse me" and left.

The professor meanwhile, blinked, then looked at her.

"Kurt's calmed down. He's back in his old room, if you would like to go up to him. Up the stairs, two doors on your right," he said.

"Danke." She hopped down from the chair and bowed her head respectfully, then turned and walked from the room.

Kurt, meanwhile, leaned against his forehead to the cool glass. His room, while unused, had been stripped and prepared for a new occupant, probably since after he and Ororo met for the last time.

And now he was back. It was horrible, seeing Ororo with Logan, watching them embrace. And now he realized jut how much Joy meant to him. If he lost her, he'd curl up inside of himself and waste away to ash.

Joy tapped on the door that Xavier had pointed out to her, aware of Logan watching her from another door a little further down the hall. "Kurt?"

Kurt started, then turned, staring at the door for a moment as if it were the most facinating, frightening thing in the world.

"Come... come in," he said quietly, holding his breath, half expecting it to never open at all.
