Joy woke slowly, stretching before she opened her eyes and then stopping short as she realized that things didn't sound, feel, or even smell right.

Jerking to a sitting position, she looked around with dismay to find herself in a tiny, comfortably furnished room, tucked into a pile of cushions and sheets on a broad windowseat that overlooked a patch of semi-tropical undergrowth.

The gentle beauty of the place was lost on her as she tossed the bedding aside and leaped toward the door. "Kurt??"

"Nary a vone's lookin' oop," she said softly, then blinked and started as she caught sight of something by the largest building in the tiny hamlet. "Och!"

"Vat is it?" he asked, turning to look.

"A mutant, oot in t' broad light o' day a'talkin' t' a couple humans."

"Zis must be a place of safety zen," he said, clearly relieved.

"Och." Her arms tightened slightly. "Look there. Maur."

He looked, eyes widdening slightly as he saw a tall man with scales and large green eyes, chatting with some normal looking humans, nearby a gaggle of children playing, one or two displaying obvios signs of the X Gene.

"Vonderful," he marvled.

Still marveling, she swooped down and landed behind a clump of greenery, then put Kurt on his feet and leaned against him uncertainly. "I'm a sight maur different than even that tall fellow, though...."

"Still, to humans, different is different," he said. "I look unlike him as vell."

"Ja." She cloaked herself in her wings and turned toward the town, one hand patting the pouch of money she'd found in her pocket to be sure it was still there.

He slipped his hand into hers, smiling, then looked over at a passerby. "Excuse me, sir, can you tell me vhere ve are?"

The man glanced at them with a friendly grin and told them the name of the tiny village, then asked them where they were from.

"Er, New York," Kurt blinked. "Vat year is it?"

That got him a slight amused frown as the information was given. Then the man added, "That must've been some party."

"Er," he chuckled. "A bit different trip, mien freund. Danke."
