Joy woke slowly, stretching before she opened her eyes and then stopping short as she realized that things didn't sound, feel, or even smell right.

Jerking to a sitting position, she looked around with dismay to find herself in a tiny, comfortably furnished room, tucked into a pile of cushions and sheets on a broad windowseat that overlooked a patch of semi-tropical undergrowth.

The gentle beauty of the place was lost on her as she tossed the bedding aside and leaped toward the door. "Kurt??"

"Er... jist a look-see first, t' see vhat's here?" She perked one ear toward him and quirked an eyebrow as she wrapped her tail around her waist so that the hair on it hung over the top of her shorts.

"Sounds gut. Perhaps ask around und see who knows who owns ze house ve voke in."

"Ja...." She stiffened suddenly as she noticed a tall man gazing at her, not realizing that his expression held admiration for her and friendly envy for Kurt.

He blinked and followed her gaze, then gently rubbed her knuckles.

"Easy, liebe, his is not unfriendly," he murmured gently, before hailing the gentleman. "Guten tag, mien fruend, how are you zis day?"

"Gut. Do you know of a small house, four, maybe fives miles avay from here, by ze beach?" he asked, pointing to where they'd come from.

"It belongs to Hanna, at the post office." The guy frowned a little puzzledly, but then seemed to remember something and brightened again. "Does something need fixing? I can do it. For cheap."
