Futureknight universe. The graveyard where the Graysons lay.

Kurt stepped through the portal and looked around, remembering the small girl who'd first shown him this place and wondering how much time had passed since the last time anyone from his reality had had anything to do with this one.

He turned to look at the women who had accompanied him: Harley Quinn and Deona Miles, though he couldn't see Mrs. Miles yet. Then he turned toward the grave they'd come to see and blinked as he saw a tall man in a white polo shirt and brown slacks standing by one near the end of the plot. "Ah, it hasn't been so long, I guess."

His eyes widen as he actually looks at it, then flash up to her face. "Dick Grayson's been dead for a long time, and my cousin wears this ring for her wedding band. What's going on?"

Deona looks to both and whispers to her, "I leave the tale of the truth to you." She says to Richard, "All I ask from you is an open mind."

Harley takes a deep breath, "As I said, I am Harley Quinn, in this world a version of me has been dead for a long time. In my world..."
She tries not to cry, "Dick and I... were engaged to be married, he gave me this ring when he proposed. My world was destroyed... and I never had a chance to say goodbye, and that is why we are here."

Richard can see that she's telling the truth, or she believes she is. He takes the ring, then gently pulls her into his arms and speaks with his other voice, deeper and harder, though not lacking now in compassion. "I'm sorry."

Deona merely watches silently. Her involvement in all this started when Artemis popped into the Cafe that morning, but she was glad it happened, and glad to be able to help this woman.

The arms around her feel so familiar, as does the voice. Harley reaches up to pull off her face mask and just holds Richard for a bit. If she closes her eyes tight enough, it is Dick for that one moment.
"Oh sweetie... I am so sorry I never had a chance to tell you that I loved you one last time. That we never had a chance to be married or have a family, because I was happy with you. I thought I would be happy with you forever... but you are gone... and I have to say goodbye."
"You will always be in my heart, no matter what Dick. No matter what..." she buried her head in his chest, and cries softly.
