New Haven: Family

Jay-Jay smiled as she walked out of the resturaunt she waitressed in, folding her apron and looking around, stretching and making her way down the road, spotting her husband in his usual place in the foodcourt. Children hung off him as he dozed, AJ held close and Isha not currently in sight. A sign with a collection pail beneathe it hanging near him read "Kiddie care, $5 an hour".

She smiled fondly, going over and hunkering down next to him, giving him a kiss.

"Hey, babe. Good day?" she asked. He rumbled and looked up at her, eyes twinkling as he slowly rolled over, sending the children climbing on him scattering and laughing as he displayed AJ, who Jay-Jay kissed. "Where's Isha?"

Jay-Jay's ears twitched unhappily.

"He has some developmental hurtles," she said, then shook her head. "But he's a good boy. He'll catch up with Isha soon, I'm sure. And he's gentle, like his papa."

"He hears and feels stuff too much, so he hides inside where they can't hurt him," piped up a little voice from down by Jay-Jay's legs.

"Yeah," Jay-Jay scooped her up and looked at the lady. "So... do you think a star or a stuffie would be best?"

"I think the star. A stuffed animal might give too much sensory information and overwhelm him." She picked the largest one out of the bowl and offered it to Isha. "Will you give that to your brother?"

"Yes." The fuzzy little girl took it solemnly.

"And how much is that?" Jay-Jay asked, shaking her bracelet to ready it.

"It just doesn't seem right." She grinned. "I could never sell my cat's kittens, back on Earth, either. They got adopted out for free."

"You're welcome." She smiled, then cocked her head. "Are you new to the city? I'm sure I would have noticed you before."

"Pretty new. I work in the returaunt down the road and my husband's the mountain of black fur that the kids in the food court climb on for a few hours every day.

"Ah." Her face cleared. "So... have you got any family here?"

"Grandma," said Isha, sleepy-eyed as she snuggled her cheek against her doll and her mother's arm.

"Her name's Logan. She's an alternate version of the mayor," she smiled, turning Isha so she could sleep on her shoulder.
