Goliath sighed as he walked through the door and found himself and his alternate in the hospital cafeteria. "I meant to get something to eat, but I'd forgotten."

A young nurse came up behind them and gently poked gargoyle Goliath in the wing. "Excuse me, please. I need coffee NOW."

"Aye. We all survived the gargoyle terrors, 'n I thought we'd faced the worst when Goliath nearly died after 'is change," the old one admitted quietly. Then he shook his head. "The worst hurts've come tae those of the Clan that aren't gargoyle."

"Losing those close to us is never easy, no matter our species. You, the one I know, taught me that."

He growled slightly, frustration evident in the expression. "Maddening. Elisa spoke of what your Goliath told her, of how being human had brought such happiness into Lexington's life. And now that same thing may be the end of him."

Hudson bowed his head and closed his eyes as he remembered Lex as he'd seen him the night before, laughing and teasing Franklin and good naturedly quibbling with his brothers as the Clan's children tried to get in on the fun. "If he goes he'll go happy."

"He isn't going to go." A pair of scuffed sneakers planted themselves in front of him, and she started and looked up into Elisa's flashing dark eyes. "Don't give up on him yet."

Shooting Goliath a look, she turned and went into the room.

Little could have caught Goliath more by surprise than that had, topping even his strange encounter with his human counterpart. His Elisa was so much a part of his life, so much a part of his soul, that another of her was more than jarring.

"She is right," he said. Then he added, "Elisas usually are."

"Aye?" said Hudson absently, listening as Elisa told her husband that she'd gotten his gun back and was going home to lock it up and Goliath murmured, and then told her to take Franklin home and get some rest.

"Though she professes herself to be a cynic at heart," Goliath said, "my Elisa is often a boundless source of belief that all will work itself for the best."

He shook his head at the conversation. "He drives her away... when he could do better to seek comfort from her."

"Take a peep inside," said Hudson gruffly.

Sensing that he had, perhaps, overstepped himself, Goliath peeked inside.

The couple had fallen silent, Goliath holding his wife as closely as he could without hurting her while he hid his face in her hair and lost himself in her nearness.

"...I was hasty in my judgment."

"Aye." Hudson looked down the hallway at Xanatos, then started as Elisa came out and booted him gently on the knee, demanding a hug from him as well before she went. He creaked to his feet and did so, then watched her give gargoyle Goliath a wan grin and walk away toward the elevator. "Good Lord, keep her safe, I dinnae think we could take any more right now."

Somewhere along the line, it seemed, this Hudson had found religion.

"A noble thought, old friend," Goliath said, as he returned the small smile. "One I share."

"I told my counterpart I would see him through the night. I intend to keep that promise."
