Goliath sighed as he walked through the door and found himself and his alternate in the hospital cafeteria. "I meant to get something to eat, but I'd forgotten."

A young nurse came up behind them and gently poked gargoyle Goliath in the wing. "Excuse me, please. I need coffee NOW."

This Goliath sighed as well.

"You deserve rest, Lexington," he said, very softly. "We all do. After all we have endured. But that is the easy way. To live is to have to be strong. And I know you are strong."

"It's not his time yet," murmured a female voice at his elbow, sounding doggedly sure through weariness.

"Hmm?" Goliath had a noise of curiosity and looked toward the source of the voice.

Sharp brown eyes with slit pupils looked up at him from a tiny, delicately sculpted feline face that was covered in close curled fur the colour of a new penny. It was a petite, dainty looking mutate woman with a bob tail and no wings.

"It's not his time," she repeated firmly, as though her certainty would make it so.

A Mutate? Curiouser and curiouser.

"I believe you," he said, wondering how he had missed her before.

"Dr. Lucy Snowe." She offered him a hand in greeting, those big eyes still studying him frankly.

Not a name he recognized, but he took the hand anyway. "A pleasure. I am Goliath."

"I know." She smiled a little. "I've known ours since before he turned brown."

Then she looked at Lex and her stubby tail twitched, her thoughts clearly unhappy and concerned.

Goliath had a great deal of questions, but now was hardly the time for them.

"He will survive," he said, perhaps this time with a bit more conviction.

"He's got to," said Lucy simply. "We need him yet."

Then her ears went back slightly and she was suddenly, without seeming to move, standing in front of the local Goliath. "Hey, big guy, deep breath, okay?"

Goliath started and growled, but then closed his eyes and did so as he realized that he'd been working himself into a useless rage.

Goliath hesitated as he watched the display. He was a capable leader, he knew that, and one who had forged strong bonds with his Clan, few though they now were. He would say he was still learning to be a father, though others such as Elisa and Angela might have disputed that. And he had seen the Clan through so many adversities...

But in this... He had little clues how to truly help.

He remembered his twin then and groaned softly to himself.

"Forgive me, brother. Will you have a seat?" He pointed to the stool where Hudson had been sitting, then walked over and pulled the arm chair close to it and the rocking chair. "Doctor Lucy, you sit here."

"Sure, boss." Her eyes twinkled as she folded her tiny self into the armchair.

Goliath nodded and took the seat. Though he usually did prefer to stand, he was no stranger to relaxing.

"Please, forgive my curiosity, but... I had thought Fang and those of the Labyrinth Clan to be the only Mutates."
